First, congratulations. Collegian scholar track athlete here plus HS xc coach..... best piece of advice? I’d be as polite as you can to recruiters but let them know it’s “in-season” now and (said athlete) is focused on increasing performance PR as much as possible, and positioning for podium finishes to help her team win meets and preparing for sections and state competitions. Recruiting at the next level is a 2-way street. It’s just as much of an audition for you as it is them. Not saying this is the case here but Often high schools athletes when being recruited especially in-season lose some focus because they’re looking too far ahead and not being present. If it’s a dream school or an offer to good to refuse, by all means take it otherwise recruiters typically understand or are impressed that the kid is focused on the task at hand. And would be willing to wait. Not sure how adverse your XC coach is but he or she should be a helping resource in this matter of post high competition and next level. Secondly, I’d mention the other-end of the spectrum of the student athlete has good grades and /or involved in more after school Activities or hobbies. Shows the school they’re not only talented running it can balance a work load too. If I can help or answer more, let me know.
