Hey guys, Some know me here and have seen my car. It's not for sale, I've owned it now for 9.5 years and I love it. She has been down now for almost 2 years with an engine build (mechanic issues sort of). Cams, head studs, Whipple Gen4 crusher, bigger injectors, new clutch blah blah blah. Anyway, I had a younger guy find me on FB and has offered me an incredible amount to buy my car. He says he is 100% serious and is sending me a deposit on Monday. I will keep the offer private for now, but I feel it's substantial enough that I can't pass it up. Sentimental memories or not Is willing to buy car as is as seen with the engine and transmission out of the car sitting on the K. I give this a 1-5% chance of going through but swears he will be here by end of next week with cash. I thought he was pulling my leg, but it seems real Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Isn’t there a way people scam you on the deposit? Or is that where they get the car and then cancel the transfer or something. Thought I read where people would send deposit, then ask for refund, and later the bank would charge you back because the original transfer was shit. Either way, all up to you man. If you’re saying it’s too good to pass, take it. Gotta wonder why such a high offer on a disassembled car though Sent from my iPhone using svtperformance.com
I wouldn’t take any form of deposit. **** giving some random asshole my banking information. I’d say to show up with cash at a local bank or police station. If he shows up with the cash & a way to get everything home, done deal.
Simple, tell him don't waste any time with deposits. Cash and carry at yoyr local bank in person. Then watch the story change. Ps... i hope you did not give someone on FB any of ypur acct. Numbers glws!
The deposit would get done via PayPal. I feel that's secure for me. I will not do any type of wire or transfer It's worth mentioning this guy messaged me 6 months ago asking to buy for a slightly smaller ammount... I told him to show up with a trailer and a pile of cash. I am always carrying but will take any and all precautions Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
He tells me he currently has 25k cash in an account for the purchase and will acquire a personal loan for the remainder. Tells me it will be final by Wednesday. Let's see what happens Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Good luck. I hope that paypal account isn’t link to your personal bank account. I would use a dummy account in case he got squirrelly
Is there any real serious concern over the link between PayPal and my personal checking account? I didn't really think about that, but thought it was secure Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
I'd stay away from paypal, once you go through them you give all control up to them. I sold a guy something and I told him I wasn't going to give him a refund by him returning it and he sent it anyways and when I didn't give him the money he went to paypal, I almost got screwed and had to give him back the money. In your situation I would tell him a cash deposit or cashiers check made to you.
I feel like scammers give you "facts" and detailed plans like this so it's believable. For this to go through he'd have to be an honest, stand up guy and reliable-basically .0001% of the population. Does he have the VIN? Can he claim a mechanics lien or something like he worked on the car?
Yeah funds must clear. I had a guy claim an ecu didn't work. Sent it back to me. I compared it to my sale pictures and it was my peeled sticker on a different ecu. Still he said I was lying lol.
As far as the deal goes. For that kind of cash I would do the deal in your bank and have them check the money for counterfeits and notarizing the transfer of title. They can also verify the cashier check or wire transfer
In what order is best? My mechanic lives out in the woods, about 30 mins from me. My car is there in pieces. I'm going to message the buyer. No deposit, show up with 100 bills. I would like to deposit it directly at my bank, but I'm sure the buyer won't want to do that until seeing the car first. Unless I just count the bills at my mechanics and be very careful. Once I have it, he can push it on the trailer Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
What kind of guy pays a premium price for a car that doesn’t run? Seems fishy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I appreciate your support so far. Here is my latest message. Decided to not blur out the price. He it all is right here... Waiting for his response Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
