Clutch replaced, softer touch?

Well I just had a new clutch installed on my Cobra and I picked it up last night. The mechanic put in a stock replacement clutch, and had to machine the flywheel. When I first got in the car, I immediately noticed the "lighter" feel of the clutch. It's nowhere near as stiff as it was before, but it bites hard and holds like it should. When clutches start to go bad, do they get stiffer? The difference is so blatant, I'm wondering if they put the same type of clutch back in or if some Ford guy has a new '03 cobra clutch in their personal car while I get a fragile thing:D.

Anyone else noticed this with their clutch replacements?

I must have missed it, can you recall what the thread was? I'll look it up as well. Does being softer mean anything? (not as rugged etc?)
