I have a 2013 Shelby GT500 Race Red with White Stripes.

Is it okay to use a clay bar on the stripes, or will it damage them.

Do I need to be in the shade, or is it much better to do in the shade?

I've never clayed my vinyl stripes, as they're matte black. You MIGHT be OK on gloss stripes, depending on the clay's abrasiveness, but I wouldn't do it.

This thread and the included video provide good info on vinyl stripe care.

The OEM GT500 stripes (at least in ‘13-14) are unique in that they’re actually painted vinyl stripes.
Not sure how that works out for us, but outside of matte stock stripes, I’d treat them like the paint.
My sonic blue stripes look great and I’ve never treated them differently than paint.

Was at a car show back when I owned my 96 Mystic and had some guy introduce me to claybar. My fenders felt like sandpaper and he made it smooth as glass. I was astounded and started walking around doing peoples fenders..hahahaha.
