If you guys wouldn't mind helping me out I'm doing an extra credit project for a marketing class and I just need to get a quick survey on this question.

Thanks in advance all.

The religion of Christmas is dead, it has become a competition for shoppers.

Pretty sad actually.

Christmas has become very commercialized. So much so that the true meaning/purpose of Christmas has become lost is the mad dash to get presents. Then after it is over the mad dash to return presents because someone didn't like their gift. The meaning of Christmas was to bring the family together and celebrate being together. Now it is all about getting the elmo doll or the latest video game.

I like to spend time with my friends/family and give/receive gifts. I could care less about the religious point of it.

For years I felt an emptyness at the end of Christmas day, I had lost touch with the true meaning of Christmas in my life. I stopped asking for gifts, when family members asked what I wanted for Christmas I said, "nothing." Having children turned this around some, but not entirely. It wasn't until I was baptized at 35 in the Episcopal Church that my feeling about Christmas changed, now I celebrate the day, Jesus is my saviour and his birthday is a glorious day in my life once again.

If this offends you or causes you to look down upon me, I understand your intolerance for I have been on both side of the divide. I chose the path I'm on today not for the origanization of religion, but for the message of Christ, if you don't know, there is a difference between the two.

As for the poll, I voted "Both", my personal beliefs do not change the reality of what Christmas has become, it is what it is.

Merry Christmas everyone,

Jay

I could not agree more with what you said here.

Thanks for the answers guys...I haven't gone to church in about 8 years and I'm playing the drums at a couple services in Dallas on Christmas Eve. I'm a believer but I am against most churches and what they stand for, (especially Southern Baptist but that's for smackdown).

It's just that God pays $325 a night (or at least loaded Presbyterians do).

You said it very well Jay. I agree 100%. Despite how a politically correct and commercial world has changed its appearance, Christmas will always be Christmas to those of us who proclaim the message of Christ. I hate religion. I love serving Christ and want nothing more than His live to be manifest through mine.

Merry Christmas all!

In all honesty I sincerely doubt Jesus was born on December anything. It's clear from the scripture that Jesus was not born in winter. The shepherds who saw the Angels announcing his birth would not have been out in their fields in December. The Palestinian winters are too cold. Our Christmas is just the evolution of Saturnalia.

Before you peg me as an antsiest, I'm a pretty avid believer in Christ. I just don't believe everything I hear.

Christmas is my favorite stolen Pagan holiday.

I say neither in terms of the poll.

Forget bronze age mythology, forget commercialism. For me personally christmas is just a day when I take time off from the business of life and enjoy it with my family and friends. That's what matters in life.

Relax, eat good food, spend time with the family, do something good for a stranger, that's what this holiday means to me.

It's true that Christmas isn't celebrated on the anniversary of Jesus' birth ... that was more likely sometime in the autumn; many Bible scholars think it was around the time of the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). It is celebrated in remembrance of his birth, though.

Really in remembrance? So why do you so often see that Jesus' birthday is December 25th? Especially as a child I remember this was the story. You might celebrate is as a remembrance, but I think the general consensus is that it's still being passed off as the actual day.
