With all the cam phaser bs I try to stay under 5k
Im fairly certain that the cam phaser issue has nothing to do with the OCI, you either have faulty parts and it fails or you dont. I was doing 5k oil changes and still had them fail real early, I was under 15k if I recall when they started making noise. Also had excessive oil consumption that was resolved when they finally changed out everything for my cam phasers but I am not sure if it was related, truck was eating about a quart every 1k miles.

My wife's X3 has 3 service visits included, one every 11K miles. I drain the BMW oil after 5K and put in Amsoil for 6K.

Just used the 3rd visit and they did a bunch of stuff for $0... Code read, brake fluid swap, filter changes, software update.

Now the 'free' stuff is over, so I'll start 5K oil and filter changes.

Yeah, BMW did the 1.200 mile break-in change and I use a local shop every 3,000 miles until I hit the next free BMW change. I do use the oil BMW specs to avoid any warranty issues.

A lot of the trucks they would see like this at our local ford would be the from the utility company.

They wouldn’t travel very far with the boom trucks but the hours on the oil were insane since they would never shut the trucks off.

Always get a chuckle out of the amsoil sales pitch about 20k mile oil changes.
I've got a 2008 Lincoln MKX that's been on the Amsoil schedule for the past 100k miles and so far it's held up. Last time I changed it myself after 25k interval and it looked like a normal oil change when draining. Take that for what it's worth lol

I swear, I would take some of oil you guys are changing and run it in my shit for 10k miles.

I bet that engine had a gasket issue or something going on.
We change the oil in our Radicals and GT3 cup cars every 4 running hours. You want it? :D Motul is expensive stuff! Looks brand new when it comes out

I’ve seen quite a few of his vids. Real pro. Same for Travis (Flying Wrenches). Always like learning from people who know their craft.

And, yeah, I can’t go more than 5,000 mi without changing the oil. On any of our cars.

I'm at 2,500-3,000 miles on most of my stuff at this point. 5,000 was the most I have ever gone, and that was on my 6.4L Powerstroke that took 4 gallons of oil.

Manufacturers are up against strict EPA mandates to gain credits. This includes consumable oil products. The "less" they use, the more credits they get. They only need to squeak by the warranty period with their intervals. The extended changes are NOT meant, nor were ever designed to make your engine live longer. Those days are over and it's all about meeting mandates. That's why most quality has gone to shit because it doesn't matter anymore in the manufacturers eyes. It's not about "Our Engines last forever". That ship has sailed and gone. So the reality is you meet the standard, but you pile up the junkyards quicker. Robbing Peter to pay Paul. What good is it to have something engineered to fail? Good for sellers and makes some "Feel" good. But piles up the junkyards.

I wish we would look at total lifecycle of vehicles. They have the technology to do it, they just won't. Sad

Case in point.
