I bought my lightbar switch from Larry too, plug-n-play, no issues, works like a charm.

larry was making a plug-n-play module for the 99-04 cars, maybe he's not making them anymore.

Sounds like an issue of not getting the correct wire!

General Instructions for Installing the LBS-1 Unit
__________________________________________________________________________________________
The LBS-1 Light Bar Switch is used to automatically control the light bar inside your convertible. When the top is up, the light is disabled, so that it doesn't light up the interior of your car. When the top is down, the light is enabled so that the light bar operates normally.

An optional feature of the Light Bar Switch allows you to disable the car's original third brake light when the top is down, so that only your light bar operates. When you raise the top, the light bar turns off and the control switches back to the car's third brake light. (NOTE: Check local laws regarding the control of the original equipment third brake light).

module.jpg

Installation Instructions

1) Lower the convertible top to the full down position. Remove the rear seat to get to the convertible top motor and wiring harnesses.

2) Locate the power wire that goes to the third brake light. If you don't have a wiring diagram for your car, you may be able to trace the wire, by color, from the third brake light back to the rear seat area. Verify that you have the correct wire with an ohmmeter or test light.

3) Using a quick splice, connect the BLACK module wire to the brake light power wire.

4) Using a wire nut, connect the BLUE module wire to the light bar power wire.

NOTE:
If you are installing the light bar at this time,
you will also need to make a ground connection to the light bar.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for this connection.

5) Locate the wires that power the convertible top motor. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN or ACC position to allow power to the top. Using a test light or volt meter, determine which of the motor wires goes to +12V when the top is being raised. Mark this wire. (NOTE: For the 1994-2004 Mustang, this is the RED motor wire).

6) Using the diagram below as a reference, connect the RED module wire to the motor wire that goes to +12V (determined in Step 5, above). Use a quick splice to make this connection.

7) Using another quick splice, connect the YELLOW module wire to the other motor wire.

Optional Third Brake Light Control

If you wish, you can disable the car's original third brake light when the top is down, so that only your light bar operates. When you raise the top, the light bar turns off and the control switches back to the car's third brake light. (NOTE: Check local laws regarding the control of the original equipment third brake light).

8) Cut the brake power wire that goes to the car's original third brake light. Use a wire nut or some electrical tape to insulate the harness end of the wire.

9) Connect the WHITE wire from the module to the wire that goes to the third brake light.

Testing

Raise the convertible top and apply the brakes. The light should be disabled. If you have installed the optional third brake light function, the third brake light should be enabled.

Lower the convertible top and apply the brakes. The light bar should be enabled. If you have installed the optional third brake light function, the third brake light should be disabled.

If the light bar operation is inverted (off when it should be on, on when it should be off) then reverse the connections to the motor wires.

Why Yes it is! All that info is off of their site. The have an online installation page.

I hope there isn't a problem with the one from Haney because that is the one I have coming with my light bar!

Thanks for the heads-up, Jeff. Don't get in here (Termy section) much, for obvious reasons. LOL

Hi, I was helping Jeff (BLOOWN03) put in his light bar. The module we had looked different than the one pictured, and different from a plug-n-play I had installed last year. When I did the P-n-P, it worked fine, but I don't know what connection was going to what, since it was all plugs.

This current switch had 4 wires, 2 black and 1 yellow and 1 red. The directions (printed off the web) had 2 pages. The first page showed a pic of the P-n-P and discussed it, no help. The 2nd page showed a wiring diagram that had the red and yellow going to the conv top motor. Then it had the red from the light bar going to any hot lead, and the black from the light bar going to one of the black wires from the module, and grounding the other one. As Jeff says, when we did this, the brake light was on full time. Since there was no connection to the brake circuit, we could only assume that it was some type of inertial switch inside. But there was no way to tell. It was glued shut.

Well. there you have it. Any ideas?

so where does the positive on this hook up connect. I would assume it would connect to the third break light wire as it would from the CDC Light Bar instructions.

Those are the instructions we had. We went to a full time live positive. I guess trying the positive from the brake (green) wire would have been worth a try. Didn't even think of that. Positive usually means just that.
Good thing I don't do this for a living. :D

Jeff, some nice day we can try that if you want.

If you went to a full time live that is your problem. Just as you say Always live means Brake Light Always on.

Find the wire that only has power when the brake is applied:

Connecting the brake light:

Note: Wiring difference for 1999 and up
1. Now that the bar is in the car and bolted down, you will need to connect the wires for the brake light. You will find the main wiring harness on the driver-side rear seat area, it is a long rectangular box. After cutting away the black tape, pull out the wires from the box. You will need to find a red wire with a green stripe (Solid Green for 1999 & up) and a solid black wire. Using the two dark blue connectors, tap into each wire. Then using the light blue connectors, crimp those to the wire from the light bar. Plug that into the dark blue connectors. Test the brake light by depressing brake pedal. If the light does not work, reverse your connections.

I think once you change that wire you will be good to go!
