Hey all this is my first thread post. There’s a lot of information to share as this is a really niche and weird issue. I couldn’t find any other threads relating to this but if there is one please link it below:

Car is a 1999 GT with xe274h cams I put in last summer.

Recently I have had an issue where the car will die and sputter out at idle after it’s been running for 30 or so minutes. Until then, it will run and drive perfectly fine. When the car dies, the engine will crank and crank but won’t start. I’ve tried normal cranking and clear flood mode but to no avail.

I recently replaced the fuel pump as I the issue arose on my old pump. I had a new one already ready to go in but that did not fix the issue. I also just replaced the IAC valve but that did not fix the issue either.

When the car dies, I can hear the fuel pump priming and can smell the unburnt gas through the exhaust pipes so I’m pretty certain it is not fuel related. The car has the EGR and dpfe deleted, so that rules out those systems which are known to cause similar issues.

Like I mentioned earlier, the car will start up and run just fine if I let it sit for a couple hours once this issue arises. I don’t have access to my scan tool at the moment, but can get back with codes and data once I have it.

My other dilemma is that everything seems to be reading just fine when I do a live data stream and the car is running. I haven’t had access to the tool when it starts having this issue. That is my next goal to cause it to die and get some data reading when I’m encountering this issue.

To me it seems like some sort of electrical issue that causes the car to just completely cutout after some driving. The theft system isnt triggered, and the inertia switch has never flipped. The MAF reads fine and all my vacuum lines look fine.

The last thing I’d mention is I’m currently running an email tune on the car specifically made with all my specs in mind. I haven’t had issues like this in the year I’ve had the cams and tune.

I’m not really sure where else to go in diagnosing this It is extremely frustrating and has left me stranded numerous times.

If yall had any suggestions on where to go or what to check from here I would greatly appreciate it. Sorry for the wall of text, I just wanted to be as descriptive as possible.

Start datalogging when it gets to the time it usually acts up. You might see it on the log. I'd guess something is up with the crank or cam sensor.

Check the fuel rail pressure sensor (aka Fuel Injection Pressure Sensor). Located on top of the driver side fuel rail. Disconnect the electrical harness and see how it runs. This will trigger a CEL but will run on a failsafe set of parameters and help you rule out the sensor. If the car drives better and doesn't shut off like it did, there's your culprit.
