USV8PWR,
I cared for my father in his last couple of years. Through dementia, he could reach normalcy by my taking him back in time through anecdotes. Stories of special, wonderful times we had together.

He enjoyed stories about his job and his buddies during his 40+ years as a coal miner. I spent 3 years of my life at one of those mines with him.

In his final days, I asked to think back over those years and tell me who his very best friend was (everyone loved and respected him). He took my hand, looked me straight in the eye and said "why, YOU were".

Congratulations. Your heart and respect will surely earn you such a cherished place in your fathers heart as well.

As an aside, I DID get to take him for a, uh, "spirited" ride in my 07 for his 90th birthday.

God bless you both.

Bj

This is great to read and see. Sounds like you and your father have a relationship very much like I do with mine. We've built my '03 together which has been incredibly special and the purchase of the '13 was something he had wanted all his life and finally was able to realize. The day we picked that car up is one I will probably never forget. Stories like this need to remind all of us that through all the bickering of delayed orders, nitpicking of details, bench racing with GM owners, etc etc, this is what it's really all about.

^^^^HAHAHAHA!!! You guys are cracking me up!! I've been incredibly busy since I got the car, which I cannot leave alone.

Anyway, as of Saturday, 11/3/2012, I was no longer a "poser" on the site but rather the owner of a "Special Order" fully loaded 2013 Shelby GT500. I have been extremely busy since that weekend; had my folks down (will get into more detail in a bit), washing the car, showing the car, DRIVING THE FREAKING AWESOME CAR, and of course work. So all of my free time has been occupied by my new 13 Shelby and I have had almost no time to post on here. I have a few minutes before some dinner plans so I thought I'd share a few pics my Fiance took of my car on 11/2/12, the first day I saw it and before the surprise delivery we did for my father the following day. The Shelby had only 7.0 miles on it when I came to look at it and I was in awe at how beautiful it was! And because I wouldn't let them touch or drive it, the car was filthy! lol! Anyway, I signed the papers that day and got to "pop it's cherry"; driving it the 5 consecutive miles so that the car's full power opened up, which was a really cool experience!

The delivery with my Dad went absolutely fantastic. My dealer was incredible and the I'll never forget the day, 11/3/12. Hopefully in a week or so I will be posting some of the over 300 pictures and 45 minutes of video that were taken by the photographer/videographer I hired to capture the event from the moment we first pulled in.

Unfortunately, I've got to run (yet again) but will post some more details very soon about that day. Also, I need to do a review on my car which now has 950 miles!! WOOT!

I thought you were giving the car to your dad and that it was going to be in his name, etc etc?

I think if I recall it was also in his dads name and he could drive it whenever he wanted?

I was hoping for some pics with dad all excited myself

If you go back and read his posts, he says it will have his and his fathers name on it. So both of them, co-owned.

Congrats OP. Looking forward to the pictures.

Yep! I wish I had the funds to just buy my father a 13 Shelby GT500, but I don't! I also remember well giving my Dad a hard time one day in my teen years over selling his Shelby. I told him that he should have kept it so I could of had it and he laughed out loud and quickly said if he did still have it I wouldn't be driving it and for me to work hard and get my own ride. Which I soon did. Anyway, I thought it would be a nice gesture to simply put his name on the title. And I had to go through several hoops to do that since his name is not on the loan.

Dad was completely surprised until we pulled into the dealer. Then he began to grin from ear to ear. The photographer/videographer began taking pics & video the minute we pulled up and I hope to post some of those pics in the very near future. She took over 300 pictures so it is taking some time to edit them for me. Anyway, I opened up the trunk of the car and gave Dad a Shelby GT500 hat and shirt which he quickly changed into and I showed him the car and all of the cool features. It was probably the best day of my life (and no I don't have kids yet!). I had left ALL of the plastic and crap on the car from the day prior so he helped me remove everything. He's only had 1 new car, a Ford Escort, and that was sitting on the lot so he thoroughly enjoyed removing all of the plastic from the car. We then went on a short drive where I made sure he babied as it was not broken in yet!

The whole thing lasted right around 2 hours and my dealer was first class. They had the car waiting out front for us when we pulled in and let the photographer take numerous pics of it before we arrived. Both the dealer and the salesperson took several pictures next to the car with my Father and I and I probably got 10 hugs/handshakes from the dealer himself. I had mentioned that my Father was a Type 1 Diabetic and would have to eat a snack while there since it was lunch time. Well the dealer graciously ordered a ton of pizza and fed all of us and everyone else there! I could not have found a better place to buy and have my Shelby delivered. The whole event went exactly as I had dreamed it would go.

Afterwards Dad signed a couple of papers as co-owner and we made the hour drive drive back to the house. Once there I surprised him again with all of the accessories I had bought for it; new CS1 wheels & tires (which he loved...pics coming soon), Lloyd floormats/cargo mat, hood struts, oil separators, rogue mount, stubby antenna, Ford racing resonator delete, and Airraid oil filter. Dad and I spent the afternoon putting everything on except for the oil separators.

Also, Dad was calling everybody telling them of the news. I can't tell you how excited he was and how well the whole thing went. Hopefully the pictures my photographer took captured a lot of it and I will share them as soon as she is done editing. However, I will post a few more of the pre-delivery pics and pics of my car with the new wheels this evening.
