Mounting the Steering Rack

I used my own Class 10.9 thick washers and 10.9 flange bolts instead of the yellow zinc washers and regular hex head bolts supplied by Steeda.

Maximum Motorsports Coil Over Kit (for my MM Bilstein Race Shocks (I installed in 2017))

I painted the gold parts - to metallic silver

Completed Unit
They went together easily and I noted very high quality parts, bearings, anodizing

While the struts were out, I replaced the old nuts and washers on the CC plates with new Class 10.9 shiny zinc locknuts.

Mostly the old nuts (yellowish) in this picture

Done - Much better!

Completed Suspension Assembly

All bolted together. I think the colors turned out well and the new fasteners make it look clean.

Some forward offset control arms info.

Forward-offset Front Control Arms, 1994-04 Mustang
  • Advanced-geometry, forward-offset control arm
  • Moves front tires forward 1.5" when installed with MM k-member (Steeda KMember is similar, but less forward)
  • Removes nearly 40 pounds when combining control arms, k-member, and coil-over conversion (Steeda similar)
  • Quickens steering response by reducing bushing deflection
  • Improved ride with reduced rate static springs required with coil overs
Spring rates must be converted into wheel rates. The wheel rate is the spring rate measured at the wheel. The conversion is done through geometry.
For a stock Fox Mustang front suspension, the wheel rate is 25% of the stock location spring's rate. For example, an 800 lb/in stock location spring has a wheel rate of 200 lb/in.
For a coil-over suspension, the wheel rate is approximately 90% of the coil-over spring's rate. For example, a front coil-over spring rated at 350 lb/in would result in a wheel rate of about 315 lbs/in.

This shows approximately the movement of the front hub forward to the centerline of the wheel well opening in my appliocation. I am using a 350 lb/in Hypercoil spring rate currently.

Stock suspension is on the left below.

Hey Brian, amazing thread. Did you know Craig Barker back when you worked on the mustang projects?

Craig at Roush? I knew one there. I do not recall a peer at Ford in my areas.

Thanks for the thread feedback too.

Yes! Craig worked at Roush and told me that he worked with the SVT Teams, specifically when it came to the Cobra's, R's and Lightnings. I'm pretty sure he has retired but still residing in the Detroit/Livonia area.

Awesome build thread! Can't wait to see more updates.

Thank you!

There are many updates coming - mostly this winter now I think. I still have alot to do!

Project parts in-hand
  • 3.2 LC KB Mammoth kit
  • JMS Spark Booster
  • Install the improved GT pumps and stay returnless for now
  • Killer Chiller Drag kit
  • MM full welded subframe connectors
  • Might add my oil pressure and coolant temp and exhaust temperature gauges

These parts are not purchased:
  • MM Rear coilover kit
  • DYAD Centerforce clutch, flywheel, 26 spline input shaft
  • Return fuel system (potentially)

Beautiful! Still want a lift in my garage :(

Yep, it made most of the projects possible. I bet I've had it off the ground several hundred times.

The price of the lift was only about the same cost of FOUR Cobra front lips today!
