California will halt sales of new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks by 2035, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday, a move he says will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 35% in the nation’s most populous state.

The proposed rule would not ban people from owning gas-powered cars or selling them on the used car market. But it would end the sales of all new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks in the state of nearly 40 million people.

California and the roughly dozen states that follow its lead on auto emissions standards make up a significant part of the U.S. auto market, giving the day’s move huge potential impact for the U.S. automobile industry as well as for long-term efforts against pollution and climate change, which is driven by fossil-fuel emissions. It also is likely to meet opposition from President Donald Trump, who wants to roll back tougher Obama-era auto emissions standards and is battling California to force it to comply.

California already has rules mandating a certain percentage of new car sales must be electric or zero-emission vehicles. This rule, if implemented, would make California the first U.S. state with a plan to phase them out completely.

At least 15 other countries have already made similar commitments, including Germany, France and Norway.

Newsom’s order directs the California Air Resources Board to develop and approve regulations to meet the 2035 deadline. He also ordered them to make a rule requiring all medium and heavy-duty trucks be 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2045 “where feasible.”

Newsom also directed state agencies to speed up development of charging stations across the state and called on the Legislature to eliminate new fracking licenses by 2024.

Fracking is a technique that allows energy companies to extract huge volumes of oil and gas from shale rock deep underground. It involves injecting high-pressure mixtures of water, sand or gravel and chemicals into rock. Fracking opponents say the chemicals involved threaten water supplies and public health.

California has a goal of relying 100% on clean, renewable energy by 2045. Gasoline and diesel-powered cars and trucks are the biggest impediment to reaching that goal as they account for more than half of the state’s carbon pollution.

The order comes as massive wildfires have burned a record 5,600 square miles (14,500 square kilometers) in California this year. Experts say the size and intensity of the fires are aided by warmer temperatures and years of drought brought on by climate change.
    ------

The good news is all it takes is someone new in power to cancel this stupid plan

Yeah can not see too many trucking companies that would want to even try to deliver anything to that moronic state now. That also includes food and medicine. Hope they like the bed they have made for themselves and they best damn well stay and lay in it, not pull the escape handle and bail to a red state to get away.

YOU VOTED FOR THIS, SO STAY AND PUT UP WITH IT!!!!!

We currently get 3% from renewable energy. The technologies are so inefficient and costly, much more so than gas and oil. Democrats are a complete failure. Every policy that they enact, sucks. Our grid is third world. CA cannot even keep the lights on now. 15 years is not enough time to prepare for this economic and environmental disaster. Dems are ****ing failures.

The OEMs have brought this on by spreading their ass cheeks far and wide for california throughout the decades. For years they made models that had 'Federal emissions' and CA emissions. All they did was embolden the marxists. They should have excised that wart a long time ago.

Now that the leftists in ca are threatening the very existence of the OEMs, they should band together and tell CA to eat shit and die. The Big 3 should immediately halt all new model sales in CA and to CA departments and agencies and furthermore should lobby Trump to levy massive tarriffs on any foreign manufacturer that sells any model 22 or newer cars to CA.

Lets the state spend $120K per unit on Nissan Versas and let the leftists who empower these shitheads deal with the consequences of their bullshit.

EVs are ****in' gay, no matter how quick and fast, period. Nothing sexy about them, at all. You cannot engage with them and the sound they make is that of a queef.

People should require that California build the additional powerplants and grid upgrades before the EO takes effect. Nice thing about an EO, a Governor with sense can overturn it. Ask Obama how quickly they can be shot down.

That’s the funny thing. The power grid can’t support what they have now, so why not add even more burden to it. I need to be hired as a recruiter to bring CA’s auto aftermarket companies to S.C.

Governor Gruesome actually said one of the benefits of owning an electric car is,

"The difference is you don't have to pay any money at the pump."

Ummm so that means free CA electricity then to charge my car?

"Gee honey, why is our electric bill $1200 a month now that we bought a Tesla?"

I am starting to feel a little responsible for this shit. Not because I voted for this **** but rather because I keep asking the same damn questions.

Can this state any worse ?

Can this state get any ****ing dumber?

Hopefully this is the turning point or the catalyst that finally gets people in this state to wake the **** up. I keep waiting and hoping the pendulum swings back the other way. Sadly I don't see it happening.

I say that because we have democratic masses hold up in the counties that drive this state that think everything that comes out of a dems mouth is ****ing gold. You can pick them out the second you talk to them because they spew rhetoric and have zero opinions of their own. They simply buy in, put the blinders on and keep checking that blue box and supporting crap like this.

Luckily for me by the time this takes affect I'll be about 5 years from retirement. There is a slim chance I'll get out before that time but I doubt it.

    **** this place.
