LONG TIME Boss admirer, stalker, etc.

Had my eye on a Blue 2012 years ago but ended up going a different direction.

About a year ago I bought a 1994 Corvette ZR-1 thats like a childhood dream come true but Im wondering if the grass is any greener with the Boss. Different cars (kinda) but looking for feedback.

It looks like I could get into a clean, low mile, Boss for about $10K on top of my Z (give or take). Worth it?

Is that the 405hp LT5? Sorry my memory is a little hazy. I know the 90 model was 375, I looked at trading for one. That car was lively for what it was, but the boss has a lot of potential if you want to modify it. I’m not fond of the MT82, but it’s still my first pick mustang for 10+ cars.

Pick your poison.

How many miles are on your ZR1, how nice is it, and what color int/ext? The values of those cars are all over the place. One of my brothers has had a few C4s including a ZR1, and I’ve thought of buying one from time to time. He’s always cautioned me- they are cool engines in otherwise mediocre cars. That said, I’ve always liked them… It’s really hard to compare them to a Mustang. I guess if I was satisfied with driving a 400hp car and enjoyed the collectibility and quirkiness of the Vette, I’d just keep your ZR1. They are more unique than the Boss any day, in my opinion.

It certainly is a quirky car with a lot of power. My car has about 90k on it. Its a 1994 Admiral Blue over Grey which is kind of rare as far as C4Zs go. 56 Admiral Blue cars if I remember correctly, only 11 with grey interior.

Been going through the suspension and added headers and a catback this winter. Previous owner did all the rest of the mods (ported intake, rebuilt tranny, 4.10 gears, secondaries deleted, etc) so its pretty well done up.

My son-in-law had a '94 ZR1. Under 1K miles on it. It was okay, but nowhere near as much fun to drive around town as his 2006 Z06. If I had to choose between it and a Boss 302, I'd go with the Boss hands down. It's better performance wise and engineering wise. Maybe my opinion is clouded by the fact that I'm just not a big C4 fan.

I had opportunity to buy 12 boss302 for cheap 5 years ago but really wanted a GT500 so that was always in the back of my mind. Well the market skyrocketed and the car jumped in value like 5k so I sold the car, it was a easy decision too sell since I really never was looking to buy a 302. Well I had a brain fart and bought a 96 vette coupe with super super low miles thinking I was 20 again.LOL I daily drove the vette for 40 days and I will say there is no comparison between the boss302 and a C4 no matter what you do to a the vette. Well low and behold we took in a 2011 Roush mustang in at my job and within 10 min of driving I knew I had to have it and put up the vette 4 sale and sold it quickly. I’m daily driving the Roush and all I can say is I have zero regrets selling the vette there is just no comparison plain and simple. There is a smile on my face everyday I drive the roush and don’t get me wrong the vette would break necks and got lots of thumbs up since u don’t see them much. Looks wise it’s just personal preference but please don’t compare a a old c4 too any coyote s197 especially not a road runner 302. Bottom line dump it for the 10k that sounds like a great deal, you are almost at 100k the value will drop on that zr1.

Yup, had a C4 ‘87 C89C34A8-6A16-4988-BF74-C7240F6F9BBA.jpegmyself for a decade. Still depreciating- what I wanted to do, car would have twice as much $$ into than worth. Nothing magical about them and worst nightmare to work on. Traded that and ‘90 Escort I had and happy ever since with decision back in 2012…
