I'm looking for a pair of diamond hoop earrings for my wife for her birthday. I really hate going into jewelry stores because stuff is so over priced and I don't trust any of the stores or the employees. Looking to spend $600-1,000. Any good places online?

Frontjewelers.net. Bought my wife's engagement ring and wedding band from them. Top notch. Good prices

I say no, but that’s me. Buy from a good local place. I bought a really nice tennis bracelet for my wife year ago, and she takes it back every few years to get the prongs tightened back up, no charge. Same with her diamond ear rings.

I’d vote for in person aswell. I’ve always had pleasant experiences at jewelry stores when shopping for girlfriends.

I bought jewelry from stores, in person. Experience isn't bad but I know that whoever I'm working with, they work on commission and are trying to sell it as high as they can. I have plenty of Co workers that can recommend "their guy". Think im just ready to buy online and skip having to work with a commission salesperson. Also I bought service plans for my wife's rings and she does take advantage. I'm not really worried about cleaning, dipping, tightening diamonds on a set of earrings. Maybe I'm off base here.

I completely agree. More often local places have better prices.

    Where did you go?
Not every place has sales people who work on commission. Maybe give another place a try? Often times the prices are better and if you have a problem, they can take care of it.

I was looking for diamond studs for the wife one Christmas, wish i could remember what site but they were awful. The grading was nowhere freaking close to what they claimed, the inclusions were obvious to the naked eye, I sent that shit back. I finally ended up at a local chain to get what I wanted. Diamond hoops it probably doesnt matter as much about the quality as long as they have good color

I watched a show about diamonds on TV and they reported that the average price paid for loose diamonds was $12. Of course larger better grade stones are more but if you try to sell a piece back to a jeweler you will very likey find out the true value. Generaly it is an emotional purchase not based on logic. I recommend that you be pleasant but bargain firmly. They have a lot of wiggle room.

The only place online I'd consider is bluenile.

    Trust....then verify.

Verify with someone with enough credentials who didn’t get paid off the original diamond sale and doesn’t mind diming out the other jeweler.

Don’t tell them where you purchased from. Pay them for the independent inspection.

I’m running 50% average on what was represented vs. what I paid for.

Use appraisal to get upgrade on original specs at no cost once you identify the fraud...pay for independent inspection again to verify free fraud upgrade.

Here’s what to look for credential wise in the independent diamond inspection business: GIA Graduate Gemologists....American Gem Society Registered...AGS Certified Gemologist/ Appraiser....National Association of Jewelry Appraisers Members.....American Gem Trade Association Members....Diamond Development Initiative Friends...Member of the American Gem Society Members...

Ignorance is bliss in the diamond business. If you don’t understand what I typed here....you got a good deal....nothing to see here....carry on!

Bluenile. I purchased from jamesallen.com. Don’t have enough good things to say about them.

James Allen. I was impressed with quality and customer service.

Purchased my wife’s engagement ring and band from JA. I actually purchased the stone somewhere else and sent it to them to be set into the ring.

I would definitely go with them again.

Either buy a cubic zirconia set and save the money or go to a reputable jeweler and spend the money on a quality pair of earrings. Buying from Zales or Kays or other mall store like that you're getting low quality and spending waaaay too much.

Growing up my mom worked in a Jewelry store. One of the more fair priced places and their markup was 3x the cost. When it came time to buy a diamond I bought online then brought it in to a local store to appraise. The diamond valued at twice what I paid. If you shop around and go to the good online stores you will find much better deals and much better quality than 99% of the local stores.

Bought my wife's diamond for her engagement ring from blue nile and had it set locally. Jeweler said he couldn't come close to size/rating for the price. Also bought her a diamond necklace off there and she was happy with it. Paid about 30% less than I could get anything locally. Very happy with both purchases. I didn't see the point in paying a premium for the best anything since when they aren't worth shit if you go to resell them. Wife gets something shiny shes happy, I save money, win win.

    I used costco online.
Can return to a mortar store as long as you don't resize it/break it(obviously)

    No complaints

    Just a little bit. lol

If you are ever unhappy, I was going to suggest the Diamond District, my father in law is Todd. He always gives extremely great pricing to everyone I personally send in.
