I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks like this. Most people live beyond their means and banks don't help this. We were approved for over 500k for a mortgage loan and the bank was shocked we only wanted to take out a loan for under $200k. My wife and I are around 30. We make decent money for the area and live moderate lifestyle with equal fun and frugalness. We each put about 10% of our salary away and have 6 figures put away for retirement. Other than the mortgage we have no debt other thank about 10k left on my truck that should be paid off this year or early next. I'm at a loss though when I talk to people, some that make less and others that make more, who have no savings, no retirement, and literally nothing to show for it. I see a lot of people spend tons of money traveling, going out to eat/drink, and other non-essentials (Cars, clothes, etc.) I have a guy that works for me that literally will talk to his wife on the phone at work about which bills they can skip paying on because they don't have money in the bank to pay all their bills. They have even drove each other to work because they didn't have money to put gas in both their cars. This guy is in his late 50s... and they just bought a brand new camper.
