With the recent threads on buying land or building a house I thought I would finally show my progress on my home.

Four years ago we inherited close to 20 acres and a small modular home after a grandparent passed in our family. After much consideration I left what I considered my dream job near Charlotte NC and moved to eastern NC. The goal was to save money, payoff debt and eventually build our dream home.

This was the first time seeing our property and proposed new home sight.

We decided to place the home site 1800ft off the road. Seeing how poor the land drained was enough to make me want to move the location closer to the road but we both really liked the privacy.

Loving this thread neighbor! I'm across the county from you.

We've got some family farmland between you and WF, but seven people own it now, so I guess we'll just keep renting it to the farmers.

That’s how my inlaws land use to be. After several years of being broken up most of it has been sold.

Several people are buying here building and commuting to Raleigh.

It’s down to the last day today. After almost 6 months the last thing left is our glass shower door. The best part of a custom house is picking all of the small things that make it yours. The downside is picking things to help stay within your budget.

Metal roof ?

Only way to go. A metal roof helped reduce our home insurance.

We finished our home July 2016. 3100 Sq ft, metal roof, tankless water heater, spray foam insulation, 17 SEER HVAC, oversized and insulated garage doors, all tile floor and complete LED lighting. Amazing how efficient it is.
