You ever heard a 96 GT and a 96 Cobra side by side? It ain’t a firing order difference
Both cars have OHC engines with many differences overall, a significant one being the number of valves.

Are you really going to tell me that 2 engines in 2 cars, with all things being identical other than how the valves are mechanically opened, are going to have different exhaust tones?

Alright, here is why they sound different.

A 90 deg CPC V10 is unbalanced. There are two practical ways to get it under control.

1. Keep the cylinders firing at 72 deg and add a counter rotating balance shaft down by the crank that spins 2X of RPM. This is how the Ford V10 works.

2. Adjust firing order. Five of the cylinders are fired at 54 degrees and the other five are fired at 90 degrees. This is how the Viper V10 works.

That is why they sound different. Has VERY little to do with OHV vs. OHC in this instance.

Anyone remember that Ford did this back in 2004 with the BOSS 351 V10 concept?

This is where things get interesting....

This particular V10 was set up very similar to the Viper V10, and NOT like the original 6.8 Mod V10 or the one in the first vid.

Instead of using the split pin crank firing at an even 72 deg interval with a balance shaft, they went with a common pin crank with uneven firing and no balance shaft. That is why it sounds similar to the Viper V10.

This would make sense for a performance engine to go with an uneven firing, as it avoids the need for a power robbing balance shaft. The tradeoff is the weird sound.
