Here’s a real winner of an article on why pickup trucks have gotten bigger and more intimidating.

    Petro-masculinity? Belligerently operated? Militarized grilles?

Do these beta cucks actually believe the garbage that they write?

    What Happened to Pickup Trucks?

You can't get rid of pickups unless you demonize them.

And sedans got smaller. I miss the big old Cadillacs and Lincolns.

The narrative is being set.:( What "they" think you should be driving will supersede what you want to drive.

Just wait until the ole EPA decides to include the HD truck models into the CAFE standards and adds GG tax to them.

The boats got replaced by SUVs.

The reality is consumer taste hasn't shifted since the 1960's.

Those with families want large comfortable vehicles with plenty of interior space.

EPA ensured cars could no longer be large so manufacturers created SUVs (Trucks).

Consumers didn't like the "truck" feel so manufacturers created the truck on car chassis and the modern SUV was born.

Pick Ups also grew for the same reason. They are no longer just a tool, but a practical daily driver. People want 4-doors, luxury appointments and fuel economy today is no longer single digits.

Yeah but they made the Crown Victoria up until 2011-12 and it got decent mileage. I had a 2004 and it was plenty big. I think the largest American sedan available now is either the Chrysler 300 or Dodge Charger.

That's exactly what's happening. I've noticed a trend online of memes and videos mocking truck owners the past few weeks. I was wondering what was going on, now I have my answer.

All of which are mid-sized for the 1960's and 70's.

Also, the SUV is superior in terms of practicality to a full-size boat. People just didn't have SUVs in the 60's and 70's.

They never should have stopped making the panther platform..... Those cars with regular services lasted forever. I can only imagine how a crown victoria would be with a modern coyote and 10 speed auto. Im 1000% positive they would sell like no tomorrow!!

Yeah but now you see more crossovers than big sedans or God forbid a wagon. I had an 07 and now a 15 F150 seem same size to me. I will say the small pickups have gotten super-sized. A Ranger or Colorado is similar sized to my old 07 F150. Nothing like the old Rangers and S10.

Every soccer mom around here has at least a crossover. If you have more than 1 kid you NEED a full size SUV with 4 captains chairs and a rear bench too. When I was a kid my sister and I were fine in a Taurus.

I remember when I could reach almost to the center of the bed on a 2wd pickup. Now I can barely see over the edge of the bed. A lot is coming from rollover protection rules. Make it taller to give more headspace, and you have to make it wider and longer to look right.
