I'm looking to change up my suspension for 2021. I'm building my Cobra as a street car so I want something that handles and drives well on the street. It currently has the Maximum Motorsport Race 3 coil over set up and rides like trash on the street. I plan on running the Blistein HD dampers with H&R Sport springs. Just looking for feedback on the blistein HD damper package that can be bought on MM and how they handle / perform on the street.

I like the Maximum Motorsports stuff a LOT. Their HD stuff is stiff but not intolerable

I'm not looking for stiff, I want a good street ride quality which I believe the Blistein HD's will do but looking for feedback from those who have them

I have the HD's on my car. No complaints. I original ran them with H&R race springs.

Do you still have them now with different springs? I see a lot of people that run the H&R Sport springs and the drop on them is right where I want to be so that's why Id like to go with those. Some may see as going from the coil over set up I have now back to the conventional shock / strut / spring set up as a step backwards but after driving 10 miles with the Race 3 MM set up I have now anyone would be thinking the same thing.

I have them with the MM coilover set up now. I wanted the adjustability. And I think it handles better now.

Before I start just know that I have run 3 different configurations on my car so I can give a lot of input on ride quality and handling.

Suspension setups are as fallows:

Tokico Illuminas with stick axle, poly front control arm bushings (garbage)

HDs with red race springs (IRS swap). Later added steeda control arm bushings also garbage then went to global west delrin.

HD coilovers up front and race springs in the rear.

The MM3 race shocks/struts are race only last I checked. I wouldn't expect them to be the slightest bit comfortable on the street.

Before you step back to a conventional setup have you considered running the HDs in coilover fashion?

I ask because of everything I've ran HDs with coilovers have been by far the most comfortable followed by the HDs with H&R red race springs. With this setup I was running a 325 spring up front and the ride is night and day different then the H&Rs up front. Yes even with the delrin bushings.

The car flat out rode smoother and absorbed bumps better. My wife even commented on how much nicer it was to ride in.

Keep in mind you already have the coilovers and all that would be needed is new springs to go with the HDs. You could easily sell your MM3s and springs to cover the cost. I would have MM toss in two new snap rings for the rear though, cheap insurance IMOP.

I just wouldn't give up on the coilovers so soon having been through what I have with the car.

My current setup is HDs and coilovers on all 4 corners but the car isn't drivable so I can't comment on it. I will say I went this route after feeling the difference on the front though.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I do realize that the coilover set up with better strut / shock set up would ride the best but I'm also looking at this from a cost factor. To get the grooved HD shocks with the coilover conversion kit is substantially more expensive than the HD set up with H&R Springs. Its also that I drive the car as a weekend / nice weather car and only during the summer. Its up for the winter from Nov - April so I'm really not sure how much I'll benefit from spending the extra money to keep it as a coilover set up VS just going with a more comfortable shock / strut like the HD's and throwing on a set of HR Springs when its not being driven a lot anyway. I'm at that point of wanting to take that added cost that I would not be spending and putting into other areas of the car that I want to address.

I'm so done with shit riding suspension on cars. My 94 Cobra I put solid spherical bushings in the rear, strange 10 ways, and it rode like crap. I knew this car had the this suspension on it when I bought it and where it came from in FL it may have been ok on those roads but up where I live its like hell. The plan is to sell the MM3's once they are off the car. I have zero use for them and have nothing invested in them so I'd sell them at a too good to pass up price.

I am not sure I fallow how the HD with H&R springs would be substantially less expensive.

Since you already have coilovers for your MM3s you would just swap everything but the springs over and buy new lower rate coilover springs. The coilover kit for the HDs and MM struts is the same. The price for the coilover springs VS the H&R springs is nearly the same.

Ok I get what your saying, yeah that wouldn't be that bad, the difference between the HD with and without the groved shocks is only $60. I was unaware you could reuse the components for each set up like that. I'll look into doing that then and contact MM and see what they suggest for a better spring that what is on the MM3's now considering I'm sure they are more for racing than street driving as far as their aggressiveness

Yes call them. They worked with me on spring rates, as your current setup may be a bit stiffer then what they will recommend for street. My old setup handled amazing but was a little stiff but not all that bad. I would buy them again.

I'm not sure of what the current spring rates are or if they have worn off or anything like that to be even able to tell. I'd rather just buy what they recommend VS having to take it all off again just to replace the springs that are on it now if I decided to use them. Thanks for the input it definitely helped a lot

MM sent me 600lb front and 400lb rear springs with my coilovers. Likely perfect for a road course but way to stiff for the street IMO. I swapped them out for 475/300 and it's much better. Could have went 400/250.

Good lord thats WAY to stiff for a street car. Your happy with 475 up front though?

I ask because I have heard 400 is about at high as you want to go if you want anything remotely comfortable.

I order the HD coil-Over kit (MM-COP-53HD) last week and asked Lethal what springs this kit comes with and for mainly street use the kit ships with 250/350 springs. I ran MM coil-over kit on my 93 Cobra and it was awesome. It sucks that California has shutdown it will take 2- 3 weeks before it ships.

I'm pretty sure the 475 is the rear spring. I have the same combo on my car and it's not bad. The rear could use a little extra dampening at times IMO.

You're right I got it backwards. The springs MM sent were 400 front/600 rear, I then stepped down to 300/475.

I went with 325 front/ 525 rear... not really sure why I was recommended those numbers. I told them I have a 700 rwhp car.. I mostly street drive but will take it to the track once in a while.
