Ok. I was looking at the wrong spot. If it has the option to run its own reservoir that's the route I would go.

    Okay everyone,

Went to go see my fabricator yesterday. We talked about the best way to install the 427 emblems on the valve covers. We decided the best way to do it will be to drill holes in the valve cover. Take the tabs on the back of the emblem and thread them. Then we will place them on the valve cover and place a nut on them and tighten them up.

My fabricator said he would put some high temp sealant on the tabs to ensure they will not leak oil AND he will place red lock tight to ensure the nut does not vibrate loose or back off. He indicated he would also put sealant on the nut/threads for some double insurance. Would be VERY bad to have nuts bouncing around inside my valve train.

I felt this was the best route as I did not want my valve covers milled. If I had them milled the powder coating would get damaged. Also, if the valve covers are milled the 427 emblems would be permanently mounted. This would not allow me to get my valve covers re-powder coated as the process would damage my 427 emblems.

Lastly, I coordinated with my fabricator to take him my car in 4 to 6 weeks. This will allow for my induction system to arrive and then I can have him do some work on the car.

I'm looking for him to do the following:

    1. Install heim joint to hold steering shaft in its proper position.
    2. Create my upper and lower radiator tube. I want metal tubes that can be polished or chromed. No radiator hoses on this build.
    3. I want him to make a custom radiator cover. Design/style to be determined. He said he can make some cardboard cut outs and see which design I like best before we go final.
    4. Once the car is just about completed, he will install my custom exhaust complete with cut outs. The plan is to have 3 inch pipe, over the axle and out the back (dumped right at the valance. No exhaust pipe will be sticking out the rear). It will have an H pipe and utilize my old Dynomax Race Bullet mufflers. Everything will be stainless steel.

I know I was trying to do this build on my own, but the truth is there are certain things that are beyond my skill level or I simply do not have the tools to do it. Rest assured the majority of this car will be built by me or have my design fingerprint on :D.

Yes, I already have a billet reservoir. Problem is the billet reservoir and slave cylinder cap are designed to run a rubber hose with band clamps. I think that will look like S#!T. I want to run -3AN braided brake line. However, I need the fittings for the billet reservoir and slave cylinder. The picture of the fitting I posted above is the one I think will fit the slave cylinder. I think I have a brake fitting that will fit the billet reservoir.

Have to mess with it this weekend. I did order the fitting for the slave cylinder already, but as usual, it's on backorder

BTW, the orange cap on the slave cylinder is where the -3AN fitting and line go to the throw-out bearing on the transmission. I don't understand why they provide a -3AN for that line, but not the reservoir.

    Doesn't make sense LOL.

    Okay everyone,

My fabricator knocked the valve covers out in one day. I think they look awesome! Cannot wait to get these installed on the finished product. Going to keep the old valve covers on the engine for now and put these away to keep them from getting damaged.

Here you can see the emblem is laid on top of the fins giving the emblem a raised look. I think this makes the emblem more prominent.
    20210114_174503_resized.jpg

My fabricator ended up threading the tabs on the emblem and then used nylon nuts to keep them in place. He "did" say that when I get ready to mount these permanently to put silicone sealer around the nuts to seal them and to additional insurance that they will not come off. 20210114_174528_resized.jpg

Here you can see the nylon nuts are lower than the baffle mounting points. So, I know there will not be any clearance issues.

Those look really good. Will fit nicely to the overall scheme you are going for. Great job thinking outside the box.

Ok. The dimmer switch is slowly coming up. I thought you had the option to screw the reservoir into the master cylinder. I didn't realize it had to be remote mounted.

Thank you both! Yeah, I wanted something different. There are not many options for 427 valve covers based off the 351W block. Lots for the 427FE blocks, but I cannot use them on my set up.

I realize the Mustang is a platform many before me have modified and made awesome. I'm just trying to make my build stand out in a crowd. I still have a ways to go, but I think I'm on the right track and I really appreciate your guys feedback and comments thus far. Keep them coming please.

Thanks Bob! I keep looking at this situation and trying to figure out how to make this hydraulic clutch set up a better "looking" system.

I have come up with an idea for the line that goes from the slave cylinder to the throw out bearing. I think I'm going to hard line it like the brake lines and run the hard line very similar to my M/C set up. Should look pretty cool.

That'll look good. But make sure you have some kind of flex line down at the transmission side. You don't want the transmission breaking the hard line when it rocks over. Can you do some kind of hard line for the remote reservoir?

Oh yes, I plan on running the hard line down underneath the car. Then I plan on running the supplied -3AN braided flexible line from the transmission (throw out bearing) to the hard line. It will be set up "very" similar to the brake lines where most of it is hardline, but near the moving parts (suspension/transmission) it is flexible line.

I might be able to. I still need to figure out if that "fitting" I posted earlier will thread into the slave cylinder and allow me to use a -3AN line. If I can use -3AN on the slave cylinder to reservoir I can mount hard or flex line instead of that crappy rubber hose and band clamp set up it came with.

    Okay everyone,

3 day weekend means a lot was accomplished. However, this past weekends theme was The Good, The Bad and the Ugly...….

I mocked up my transmission. I did NOT install a flywheel or clutch or pilot bearing. The objective was to insure the transmission fit in the tunnel, lined up with the rear end and leveled out the engine. Without the transmission the engine was tilted towards the rear of the engine bay a little too much. I also wanted to make sure the shifter aligned with the opening in the tunnel.

I am happy to report everything lined up perfectly in the areas mentioned above.

This was another major mile stone for me as it reaffirmed that all the metal work I did was spot on. Engine is in the right place and at the right level and pointed in the right direction. This in turn allowed my transmission to be inline with the rear end and in the right place as the transmission mounting bracket fit and lined up with the mounting points on the floor pan/frame rail.

    HELL YEAH!!!!

    So, on to the show.....

    THE GOOD....

Plenty of room at the rear of the engine.
    20210116_111138_resized.jpg

Spacer plate and bellhousing fit great.
    20210116_112623_resized.jpg

Took a little work and struggling, as I did this by myself LOL, but the transmission went in.
    20210116_132639_resized.jpg

Woo Hoo, shifter lines up in the hole. Whew.....
    20210116_133702_resized.jpg

Shifter handle adapter places the shifter handle directly in the center of the opening. Man, that was a great feeling!!!

    20210116_134511_resized.jpg

Got to have the white Hurst shifter ball :D.
    20210116_141139_resized.jpg

Next I needed to install my pedals and get the clutch pedal hooked up to the slave cylinder.
    20210117_110835_resized.jpg

Got the Lokar pedals installed. Now they match my throttle pedal.
    20210117_120221_resized.jpg

Pedals installed and the rod that attaches the clutch pedal to the slave cylinder was mocked up as well. Man that pedal feels smooth and the spring action is nice and light. Going to love having a hydraulic clutch in this car.

    THE BAD.....

The transmissions mount they sent does NOT fit. I sent an email to the transmission company and come to find out the mount is correct for Ford. However, the TKO tail shaft is GM. So, they are sending me the correct mount for my application.

I had my old mount (red), so I installed it as I figured the transmission company would want theirs back (Black).

    Ford mount and hardware.

Ford Mount too wide for GM tail shaft. 20210116_123544_resized.jpg

Ford hardware will not thread into GM tail shaft.

    THE UGLY.....

After installing the transmission and lifting the engine into place, thus tilting it forward. It seems the oil pan and rack and pinon lines are fighting for space. So, it is either modify the oil pan or have new lines made a rerouted. I'm leaning towards rerouting the lines. I'll just take the rack to the tubes and hoses place and have them make/install new lines.

Here you can see one of the lines is bowed under the oil pan.
    20210116_175704_resized.jpg

Here you can see the other line is "pinned" between the oil pan and rack, but the good news is it is not "pinched."

After seeing the shifter and pedals in the car I wanted to see how it felt. So, I reinstalled my driver's seat and tested it out. Man, It is AWESOME having a 5 speed in my 65 Mustang. Feels like it should have been this way from the day it was manufactured LOL.

After I finished all my jobs for the weekend I wanted to add a finishing touch. So, I installed the 427/Shelby badge on my glove box door. I'm digging it. This exact badge will go on the taillight panel at the end of the build.

I sent pictures to my buddy from high school and he said I needed a skull shifter. little did he know I had one on hand LOL. So, I went outside and mocked it up. My wife asked me what I was doing and when I told her she said to take it off because it makes it look like a clown car LMAO!!!

I sent these pictures to my buddy and told him what my wife said and he replied "well, it is a Ford." LOL. He's a Chevy guy, obviously. I'm keeping the white Hurst shifter ball. I like it better and it fits the style I'm going for anyway. Had a good laugh with this skull though.

You're doing a great job! Looks like you have a few challenges ahead but that's all part of building a car. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Love the rocker covers, those look perfect. Keep up the good work my man.

Nice progress as usual, it makes me tired seeing all the work you get accomplished. Yeah that's the ticket. I can't get any work done on my project because watching you knock all these bullet points off the imaginary list just exhausts me. LOL.

    Seriously its looking great.
    The good looks good.
    The bad can be overcome.
And the ugly is doable with a couple of brewskis. Ah I mean fixable.

Sorry but tell the wife it didn't make it look like a clown car. More like Twisted Metal.

Thank you Bullitt! Really appreciate the positive feedback. Yes sir, I do have some things to deal with. The good thing is they are not mountains I have to climb, but more like little hills I need to overcome LOL. And you're right it is all part of building a car. Especially when you change things the original engineers didn't design LOL. I have been lucky so far. Nothing has really been major. Nothing a little more money and time couldn't fix :D.

Thank you Grabber! That's funny my progress is like virtual work for you. That cracked me up. I appreciate you always checking out my progress and commenting.

I officially went over to the vintage Mustang forum today and posted a link to this site. Told them my build was not getting a lot of views over there because there were too many vintage builds and mine was just nothing special compared to the others.

I agree with your list and will get everything taken care of at some point LOL.

LOL, I forgot about that game. And I used to play it too.

    WOO HOO,

Just received a couple FedEx notifications that my Speedhut gauges will be here Friday and the correct Transmissions mount will be here Friday as well.

    SWEET!!!

Oh I also made a local purchase last night. I'll post pictures after I get it mocked in place :D.
