Hello Everyone,

Well, you know how it goes with old cars. It's always something.

A couple weekends ago (on a Sunday) I started the 57 in the morning and everything was cool. I invited my brother and parents over for dinner later that day. I took my Dad and brother into the garage and started the 57 up for my Dad. Well, wouldn't you know it the fuel pump went bad and started to spray me with fuel as it was pumped out the vent holes on the side of the fuel pump.

GREAT, when my Dad shows up. LMAO!!!!

Anyway, I can't stand having stuff that doesn't work. First I looked for a rebuild kit. Damn it, I just rebuilt this fuel pump 2 years ago. That's what happens with old cars and that damn ethanol fuel. That shit eats everything!!!!

Couldn't find a decent rebuild kit, so I decided to just buy another fuel pump. Found one on Amazon for around $120. Shit, old cars are expensive too. LOL.

So, Fuel pump comes in and I get it taken care of this past weekend. When I looked at the old one, it was as I suspected, the diaphragm was eaten away by the ethanol fuel. Guess this new fuel pump will last about 2 years before the ethanol screws this one up.

So, time to get to work. Again....

Have to remove the PS pump assembly.

Now I have access to the fuel pump.

Got the fuel pump out. This fuel pump is a dual action as it pumps the fuel and creates a vacuum to run the windshield wipers. My brother told me to get an electrical fuel pump, but due to the factory dual action pump I went back with the mechanical set up.

Got the old gasket and RTV removed.

New pump installed. I tested it before putting the PS system back in. It worked great. No leaks and you can see the fuel bowl/filter is full of fuel.

I actually started to pull everything apart on Saturday morning. So, I was done pretty early this past Sunday. I needed more ATF for the PS system, so I decided to take the car to O'Reillys for a test drive. It ran great! I love that Carb Cheater I installed.

Love when things work as they should. Pretty good looking car if I do say so myself. LOL.....

Gorgeous. Love those first gen t-birds.

Couldn't you use vacuum from the manifold for the wipers?

I'm not sure how this system is designed to work. One of the vacuum lines comes off the intake manifold and goes to the pump. Then the other vacuum line comes off the pump and goes to the wipers.

So, in essence, the pump is already plumed into the intake manifold. So, I'm not sure if the pump increases the vacuum to make the wipers work.

I will probably do some research and see if there's another way to make the wipers work. I don't know why I'm worried about it. This car never sees the rain LOL. I guess it's my OCD of me just wanting things to work LOL.

Thanks Wizbang....

No problem. You could even look into a vacuum canister. I'm sure other t-bird owners have run across this problem.

She is beautiful, Glenn. The only thing missing is Suzanne Somers. :ROFLMAO:

Reading your posts above and looking at the engine photos, I'm reminded how much easier it was back in the '50s, '60s and early '70s to work on most engines.
