Dude saw Hitler, flew with the Red Baron -literally in the same plane, flew almost literally everything in the sky and he just died a couple years ago at 97 and was able to recount all of it.

You won't ever have men like that ever again in the military. The military was much smaller back then so a hotshot in one specialty could get used in other specialties if they felt their was a need. You'll never have a test pilot interrogating the enemy or being on the ground for the take over if an enemy post, and you would never have a program that loses 25% of its subjects... at least not one we would ever hear about. Simply amazes me what these men did and were capable of. Sort of reminds me of Christopher Lee and his story.

That was fantastic. Three things that stood out for me (there were a lot to choose from!)

1. He was present for Hitler shaking Jessie Owens hand, WOW!
2. The method of taking on the V1 rockets, tip its wings with yours!
3. Bail out: Crawl half way out, reach back in, throw the stick hard over..EJECT! WOW WOW!
