I’m trying to pick a color to have my valve covers powdered on my sonic blue terminator. Anyone have anything besides the typical ford blue or bright red?

I’m thinking trying a darker metallic like Redfire.

    Thoughts?

I'm a fan of all black everything.

I'll try to find a picture of my old sonic blue 7d95b5bf664a295659ff1bc801e51b1a.jpg

    Paging @musclecarresort
    Please help this man out.
Also, think about it as a total package. I like the Redfire cam covers idea but you need to tie in other Redfire accents into the under hood picture.
But yes, I’m on board with Sonic/Redfire combo.

That would be my choice. Looks nice.
I like Redfire, but I can't picture it matching SB.

Personally I’m of the opinion that you have to pick (and stick to) a theme. Redfire is great but if it’s a standalone accent it will look out of place. All it would take would be to match it to your calipers for it to make sense. Personally I think sonic blue goes best with neutral colors like greys. Try playing with textures and gloss levels instead. A matte wrinkle finish can be just as impactful as a bright color. If your paint color was a neutral I’d say hit it with a pop of color. You don’t want to distract from the appeal of the SB paint so my vote would be to remain subtle in color and shoot for an impactful texture like a heavy wrinkle

I agree 100% with this guy! Now I did my valve covers long before Powder coating was popular so I painted mine Sonic Blue with actual car paint. There is no true sonic blue powder coat but there is a mix that is very close. The parts I have powder coated myself in my engine bay have been Wrinkle Black.

So I've done the full carbon driven carbon fiber interior, I'm swapping out the grey seats for the black color found in the orange terminators. To tie the carbon fiber in I'm replacing my fog light bezels, bases of my mirrors and the COBRA lettering with real carbon fiber. I don't really want to eliminate much of the beautiful sonic blue replacing a hood or trunk. In the engine I was going to replace the firewall cover and the radiator cover with carbon fiber and powder coat the valve covers, eventually the timing chain cover and everything else is black (TVS, overflow tanks, etc.). This winter I'm going to tuck the wiring so the fuse box and clutter will be eliminated. I do like the idea of doing redfire brakes....

Do you guys think the carbon and redfire is too much?

Again IMO, those would look completely out of place on sonic blue. In the end it’s your ride though!

I definitely would NOT put redfire valve covers on a sonic blue. My car is redfire and I have wrinkle black covers that one day I'll get installed.

The lighter blue Ford racing valve covers might look good on SB.

What about DSG? My daughter has a DSG Mustang now and we're looking at doing blue accents. That's why I mentioned it for your valve covers.

That's not a bad idea, I have a DSG vert too so if I didn't like it I could just install it there....

On a side note @rymax101 what expansion tank is that? I like that is shows more of the engine. Thank you all for your inputs, I'm going to think on it, may be see if I can't photoshop something to visualize it.

Joe is on point with his color ideas. I bought his last project and I like his idea of a matte color to make it pop. When I order 6p Baer brakes I will have them in The same color as the valve covers. His color choices on his latest project will be a timeless look. That car will be as cool 20 years from now as it is now.

Its a custom tank from a guy on facebook named Lance. Let me know if you want me to put you in touch with him. To run this tank you have to have your intercooler tank located else where.

I think red and blue go great together. I always wished I could have a sonic blue exterior with the 10th anniversary interior. But I like the brighter red torch red. I went with very red powder coated valve covers and pulley bridge with wrinkle black accents for my black car. Then threw in some polished accents to match the throttle body and to make it pop. Soon I'm going to install a new JLT textured intake which should match the wrinkle theme better. Current black one is bubbling.
