I was reading an article on hotrod.com. They stated that in CA you can only replace or modify your cat's if they are out of warranty (50k miles) or damaged.

So, they slapped on a BBK longtube headers and a BBK H-pipe w/cats, saying it was street legal in CA.

Any truth behind this? (I might have killed one of my cats on a nasty high speed bump and I have over 50k miles)

here's the article:

Long Tubes are not legal here. You can get the JBA Shorties if you want street legal headers, although I heard they arent the greatest-maybe get ya 5-8 RWHP, a lil more with FI.

If that were the case I would have a set for mine, I just cant bring myself to pay all that bread for shorty headers that wont really do much for my car. If I would only install LT's if I had a freindly place I could take it to every other year but that is rare, and it still would be a PITA to have to replace those LT's if it didnt pass the visual inspection.
