I took my 2003 L in this morning to get new tires put on and an alignment done. I get a call from the shop within the hour saying the the ball joints are shot and that is why the front tires were chopped towards the inside. Is this normal? The truck only has 65k on it.

Very normal. My ball joints first went bad with a mere 10k miles on the truck. I had them replaced under warranty again before it expired. The suspension geometry in these trucks sucks big time.
Is there a way to correct the problem? Different aftermarket A-arms?Shocks?
