A couple weeks ago, I did a nice brake stand in my car (which I've done numerous times before). After finishing, I went down the street and turned around. When I came back my buddy was screaming "your car is leaking!".
We figured out that it was power steering fluid. Weird thing is, there were two other times after doing a brake stand that after the burnout was done, my power steering would feel weak. After letting the car sit for 15 minutes, the car was perfect, never had an issue. Also, I went to the track twice in the past month and did NOT have any of these issues.
A few days later after the most recent burnout, I went to start the car and immediately the power steering is making weird noises and the fluid in the reservoir was about 2" below the "min" line. I went to the store and bought fluid, filled it, and start the car. The noise got less severe, but after driving the car, power steering would be intermittent.
The car has been sitting ever since, and under my car is a puddle of power steering fluid and the reservoir is in the same spot as last time, about 2" below the "min" line. Last summer I had the car at my cousin's shop to have him go through the car for a safety check up and he claimed that my steering rack was "on it's way out".
Anyways, what I have done was I had my friend order me a brand new Ford Power Steering Pump and Steering Rack. I know the Terminator steering racks are different then other mustang racks, and he used my vin when ordering the parts, so I would have to assume that it is the correct part. I have not had the car up in the air to trouble shoot yet because I've been too busy with work, but I bought the parts just because either way I want the car to be in perfect shape.
Has anyone heard of something like this before? I'm not sure if this makes a difference either, but I have a Maximum Motorsports Steering Shaft and their Steering Rack Bushings, along with new inner tie rods....
Thanks,
Ray
