Are convertible Termis bad?

So i have been looking into buying a cobra for a good while now. And looking at the listings for low mileage termis i have been seeing nothing but convertibles and very few, if any, regular coups. Ideally i want the regular coupe and make it a cobra r clone but unless i want to settle for a higher mileage one or a heavily modded one i may have to buy the convertible instead which brings me to title question

Are convertible termis bad? In terms of handling and its performance impact on the car, i know that general rule of thumb when it comes to convertible versions of cars is that they are heavier and have worst handling and iv tried looking around and i havent seen many people talk about it when it came to the termi

Good examples of coupes are becoming hard to find. You have to be patient. My advice to you is get what you have your heart set on. In my experience, when you rush it and settle for anything less you will not be happy in the long run. Be patient and the right coupe will come along. Good luck!

I have both and on the street they feel the same. Not sure what the difference would be on a road course.

As far as for sale.... I think everyone just likes the looks of the coupes better. I also like my coupe better, but only in the looks department.

As far as fun, it's my convertible. Nothing like driving a Terminator with the top down while rowing through the gears.

Nothing wrong with a convertible Terminator. I thinks it's just a looks or preference thing. Nothing to do with performance in my opinion.

I have seen convertible Terminators at the drag strip, but not on a road course. Then again I have little to no experience with road courses where I live.

i notice a difference between the two. the coupe is definitely tighter and more precise, but there's nothing like going for a nice top down cruise.

also my coupe has almost no wheel hop, but my vert has always had it (on street tires). same mods

Good point, I noticed that too. I had a lot more trouble with cruise vibration (say 40mph) that I fought and fought with my vert. It did wheel hop more as well.....until I went with really heavy 17x10 replicas with 315 tires out rear. I ended up doing h&r race springs, bilstein HDs, mm subframes welded in.

And just for clarification on this thread title: no terminator is "bad".....both coupes and verts are awesome muscle cars! There is no wrong choice. But definitely seek out your first choice and don't settle for something as second fiddle. You'll regret that.

I run a vert and I wouldn't have it any other way. I also make 800+ hp and drive it hard. Its not abused but I don't just cruise at 30 all the time.
Top down, bassani exhaust rumbling and the 2.9 Whipple screaming; find me a better driving experience!
I also have a lot of suspension and chassis mods to help keep it tight and stable at speed.
You need to buy what you want, not what others tell you to get.

I have both. The coupes are more desirable, they do look better, but I enjoy driving my convertible, especially with the kids.

They are BAD....to the BONE!!! Love mine with 2.9 Whipple, Borla Stingers and O/R Xpipe. I have the stifflers Fit System and an upper strut tower bar so it's pretty stiff. Can't compare to a coupe since I've never driven one:) Coupe will always look better when the top is up, but it's a toss up when the top is down esp with the style bar...and the top is always down.

I am confuses as to why you would want to spend that kind of money on a terminator only to turn it into an 00R clone.

I guess this really comes down to how far you plan on going. Those 00R parts are getting more and more rare and some you'll probably never find such as an original bumper and splitter combo.

Honestly if an 00R clone is really your goal you're probably be better off with a roller car and building from there if you're trying to duplicate the car 100%. I think it would be a lot better to take a GT or V6 car and make a clone rather then a terminator.

How are you going to pay for this? I mean if you’re doing a cash deal, then that could be used as a deposit on a real 00R. A 99/01 Cobra would be a cheaper alternative to use as a R clone than a Terminator. That or a GT or V6.
To answer your question, hardtop > soft top.

The SN95 is already a "wet noodle" chassis, one without a roof off will only make it worse. Not a big fan of high hp and convertibles (I've seen 2 SN95 verts cut in half in an accident). I also like having a roof over my head especially with the speeds a Terminator is capable of. Take your time and hold out for a coup one will pop-up.

OP, read @Albatross's post at least 5 times. And let it really sink in. He is so spot on. Been there, done that. DON'T settle for anything less than what you want. Sure, a minor compromise isn't a big deal, but settling for a body type or color that you don't love will surely make you regret it later.

That setup is unreal! Looks a lot like what I’m gonna do with my termi vert. What brand/size are those wheels?
