My car is at the dealer for the tick again, this time with the second generation head replacement I had done over a year ago. They are thinking of replacing with the third generation head, then the service manager calls me to say that one of the techs just wants to check the head for a plugged water galley, because that was the problem with another cobra he worked on. So he wants to take the valve cover off first and see if this is the problem.

First off, how would taking the valve cover off reveal a blocked galley? Second, how would that cause a tick? Third, has anyone ever heard of this before, or is this guy from another planet?

Thanks for any input.

You won't see a blocked coolant galley just by removing the valve cover.

The tick is partially caused by poor coolant flow at the rear of the head.

The tech may be 100% correct...it may be a water passage issue. In fact, Ford says it IS a cooling issue. But I don't care what he finds....if it's ticking the damage is done and it needs a new head. Tell them to eat shit and bark at the moon. Get a new head. Besides...the newest head is supposed to be FAR superior!!
