Hello, just wondering like the post says if anyone here has gone from an 03-04 Cobra to a 07-09 GT500? Thoughts? Regrets? A friend of mine has and then to a 13 then a 20 GT500 and told me keep the 04 if my only option is 07-09 and put a blower on it. He stated his 03 was more fun than the 07. Just curious of everyone’s opinions. At the end of the day I may just do that keep it get a bigger blower. It’s paid for. If I sold it 07-09 would be cash no loan. While id love a 13-14 not going to take a partial loan for one so that’s outta the question. Thanks for your time.

I've owned both, I can tell a 600 to 700whp 07 to 09 GT500 is a blast and they respond well to mods, the terminator was fun as well. But I like my 08 GT500 more.

I had both as well, then ended up with an 11'. The market did suck for the 07-09's. I don't know about now. The two cars are very different, but being an older dude I enjoyed the comforts and ride of the Shelby much more. It is a better car for a small family too.

Name one thing that’s better on the cobra compared to the Shelby? No comparison. Shelby is a better car in every way.

almost.......
I'd rather have an FTBR IRS honestly. Even if it is fragile

OP, I bypassed the 07 - 09.
I'd keep the Cobra, do a TVS blower. But if not, at least just get a later production 2011+. Prices are relatively the same as the 07-09

Interior to me was like Ranger vs F250 between the Cobra and 197

Having had both an 03 cobra and a GT500, it really all boils down the preference. For me I love the GT500 way more. To me it is far superior. But again preference. I would wait and get an 11 or 12 and recommend the TVS swap.

I owned and raced an 03' Cobra for 7 years, and then went to an 07' GT500 which I currently own and have raced for the last 12 years. Modded both of them very similarly and have achieved comparable results. I love both cars. The GT500 is a superior car that carries the same "fun factor" as the Cobra IMO. I made the right decision for me in making the change back in 2010. The 07' has more interior room and mod for mod produces about 90 more RWHP than the 03'. Did love the IRS in the 03' and noticed a difference there.

To me, the 4 genres of this 2003 to 2022 Cobra/GT500 run, (03-04' Cobra, 07-12' GT500, 13-14' GT500, 20'-22' GT500, Sorry about excluding the GT350!), has shown a steady and significant upgrade from genre to genre. As expected! The 03-04' started it all off and was revolutionary with it's roots supercharger and ease of modification. The 07-12 run built on that with more cubes in motor and supercharger and roomier cockpit. The 13-14's was a huge upgrade with the TVS and just overall technology. And then the monster: the 20-22's. True supercar.

It just comes down to money. Isn't that always the case? lol The Cobras have become "collectors" and I actually bought another one 2 years ago. A bone stock 03' DSG vert. I often drive the 07' and 03' on the same day so have a good reference of comparison. For the current market of the 03-04', the 35k 07-09' GT500's is a much better value IMO. This all being said, if I had 55k that I was willing to part with, (and I actually did 4 years ago but opted out for my first auto trans performance car and went with the Hellcat instead. That's a whole nother story....), would upgrade to the 13-14' in a heartbeat. Have driven several13-14' GT500's and feel they are vastly superior to the 07-09's. It's a shame the 20-22's are priced where they are right now. Knocks a lot of folks out of that market right now, (just how Ford intended...lol).

Sorry for the long winded response. Just my take on it. I would upgrade to the 07-09'.

I'm also trying to decide which to buy this winter. I like the older, smaller Cobra and I like the fact people don't expect them to be as fast (who thinks a Cobra wouldn't be fast, but hey, people are dumb). But at the same time, an early model GT500 is potentially a much nicer car. I haven't driven one more than a test drive or two, though.

I'd be looking at picking up either car with a Whipple/TVS on it.

The other thing with a Terminator, is are they really worth 2X what you can get a used built 600whp SN95/New Edge car for? I know they will hold their value more, but I really don't care about that. The same performance for twice the $$ is hard to swallow.

I have a Whipple Cobra and TVS GT500. I have more fun with the 500 all around and enjoy driving it more.

I’m unsure really, I guess I’m just spoiled. I skipped over the 07-09 GT500 because they just don’t do it for me. I bought a 13 GT500 instead, to me I think most mustang interiors are meh. It’s hard for me to say superior at all honestly. I’ve got two 03 cobras. One I drive often for a fun FBO car, and a low mileage coupe I keep to preserve as a collector to me. My 13 GT500 gets driven as well. To be fair I’m not thoroughly impressed with my hellcats interior either truth be told. I love my foxbody interior the best. Grandmas couch type seats. Yesssir, works for me. Dollar for dollar is say there 07-09 depending on mileage is ballpark near the 11-12. For what you could get for the Comp I’d say I’d keep her around and buy a new blower. That’s just me, but I’m biased to 03 cobras.

Agree with everything said. Especially the 100k+ new Mustang. It’s not even all new, it’s just upgraded components- blower, DOHC rear engine 4 seater. Limiting production and “golden ticket” is just a way to get rid of their best selling car for the new world order purpose. No other explanation makes sense.

No doubt the gt500 is more bang for the buck with the terminator prices where they are.

As a new owner of an 01 Cobra, I underestimated what it's like to own a 20+ year old car on a 40 year old chassis.

However, I can't get around the looks of a 07-09, they just don't look good to me.

When I bought my Cobra I looked into GT500's as well. A friend of mine had a 2013 that I really liked. But when the time came to spend the money I realized the GT500 just didn't do it for me. I've seen some nice ones, but they've never grabbed me like the Cobra did.

IMO, i couldn’t trade a 03-04 for a 07-09. 11-12 maybe. A 13-14, having done it, yes. I would. I’ll say this, i want to add back a 03-04 though
