Hey there everyone-

I'm new to this page, and have a question I hope someone may be able to help me with. Here goes....97 SHO with the following mods- Borla cat back, K&N cone, Hypertech (I think) chip. Car has developed the following problems over the past 5k miles or so, and these have not seemed to coincide directly with any of the mods we did, but that's not to say they're not related...Radio DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. Temp control portion of unit works fine, but seemingly no power to radio. Tried swapping unit, that one didn't work either. Interior overhead light often stays on after all doors are shut, and does NOT shut off (only sometimes though). Service Engine Soon light comes on sporadically, sometimes for days at a time. However, weeks will go by when it does not go on at all. Car runs perfectly otherwise, and is a TON of fun; however, these problems are growing increasingly aggravating.
I'm actually posting this for my brother- I drive a 94 Lightning. My dad also has a 97 SHO, with the exact same mods, all of which have been done by us, and he has not experienced any of these problems. Any takers??:-?

I wish it was as simple as a blown fuse, but we checked all the fuses, and nothing's blown. And with the interior lights, I should have been more specific--all of the interior lights stay on, as well as the little "door ajar" light on the dash. Is there some sort of sensor that can be replaced? THIS CAR IS AN ELECTRICAL NIGHTMARE:cuss: !!!

As for the interior lights .... You might have 1 of 4 door switches sh!t the bed. Remove the switches and inspect the wires. There located in the jam of the door. This sounds like your problem.

As for the radio .... Pop open the trunk. On the left side behind the fabric near the strut tower is the "brain" of the head unit. Make shur all wires are pluged in. If everything looks secure try swaping out that unit. The unit has the antenna pluged into it so you know its the radio.

As for the CEL ..... Try running the codes and see what you come up with. Might be what RT said ... O2 Sensor.

Has the car been hit at all ?? When did your brother buy the car ??? Who did all the mods to it ??

Hope this helps ..... Welcome to the board!!!!

Hey Rickie-

Thanks for the response. My brother bought the car in late 1999-early 2000 with approx. 36k miles on the odometer (a lease turn in maybe?). The car has never been hit. My brother and I did the mods ourselves (with the exception of the exhaust). None of the problems seemed to coincide directly with any of the modifications; however, we were thinking that maybe his chip was on the fritz or something. I swear there are gremlins in the car. My father also has a 97 SHO, with the exact same mods, also installed by us....he has not experienced any of these problems (and his car HAS been hit; go figure).

So that's where we are right now. I did not know about the head unit's brain being in the trunk; I'll definitely check into that. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

By the way, where in RI are you? I am in SE Mass.

Jeff

Ahhhh Cool ...... Your not to far from me. I'm in the North End of Providence off of Exit 24 on 95. I also sell radio's online at www.fratsperformance.com. So I do know alot about audio systems. If you can't find the brain, I can SHOw you the location. Only reason for me asking about when the car was bought is the last owner could of been in a accident with it. Some Auto Body shops mainly focus on the body and leave the wiring for someone else to deal with. So over a period of time the wires that might of been chrunched between metal could deteriate. Not to mention the tools they also use to fix the body. I've seen it a few times were some shops are just sloppy and just take the money and run. I've been in the automotive buisness for 8 years doing almost everything from body work, mechinic, detailer, and installer of automotive electronics. As a matter of fact .... There is a guy over at www.shoforum.com having the same trouble with his GEN I interior lights. If you have a chance ... check out that site. There are alot of guys there and the site is dedicated to the SHO. There is also www.neshoc.com. Its a Car Club just for SHO owners. We do alot of stuff and all guys around you and I.

There are guys located in Cumberland that ONLY work on SHOs .... Here is there Link: NE SHO Specialists. These guys are GREAT and very good friends of mine.

Let me know how you make out !!
