I have been pretty busy lately with things other than the car, but managed to get a few hours in here and there. I did run into one issue that had me stumped for a while though. I was installing the MM clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster and found when I tightened the mounting bolts , (screws? They are only 4mm, hard to call them bolts) the adjuster would lock up tighter than a nun’s you know what. I first thought that the firewall may not be 100% flat and would twist the adjuster and lock it up. I checked it for flat, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t perfect either, flattened it out with hammer and dolly, reinstalled and same thing, operated as it should when not tight but as soon as I snugged it up, it went tight again. I had that poor adjuster in and out so many times trying to sort it out I thought I would wear out the mounting bolt threads. I did some googling and Lo and behold, someone from here had the same problem about 6 years ago and it showed up on the google search. The problem is the threaded body of the adjuster would hit the underside of the wiper cowl. But only when fully tightened down, back off the mount bolts a turn and it had enough clearance that it would operate as it should. Their solution was brute force and ignorance , whack the underside of the cowl with a hammer and punch. Out with a hammer and punch and a couple of whacks and problem solved! I had not heard of this issue before. It didn’t take much to give it just enough clearance to operate as it should. I spent far too much time over thinking the problem. MM did chime in on the original thread and offered the solution so a big thank you to the OP and MM. the original thread is out there for the googling. I didn’t want to revive a thread from 6 years ago, I know the mods don’t like that.

Mine had some seam sealer in there I had to cut out, only made the adjuster hard to turn when screwed way in. As soon as a clutch cable is on there and tensioned, it was out enough it didn’t matter. I did clear it when the engine was out of the car because I had more room to look inside and see the actual problem. It could be the wiper cowl metal is too close too. Thanks for sharing.

Tough to see but this is a pic that I forgot to post the other day of before I “massaged” the the wiper cowl with a BFH an a long punch th clearance for the clutch adjuster. I should have taken a pic of the after without the adjuster installed but it took me a few attempts to get enough of a relief to get it right and by then I was fed up with taking in out and reinstalling to be sure it worked as advertised. The actual “massaging” was pretty easy, the metal moved easier than I thought, although it did take a couple of times to get it right without beating up the wiper cowl too much. The relief I made is directly under the wiper miter in the cowl so unless you know it’s there you will never see it, especially once the cowl cover goes on. If you look from under the dash, you can’t see the relief either. Maybe you will when I get the clutch adjusted and the barrel moved farther into the engine bay but who regularly looks under your dash anyway?

Still picking away at the car along with a bunch of house chores That I have been neglecting for much too long getting some of the little things done while I have easier access also been trying to sort out wiring and routing of moving the batter to the trunk, it’s gotta look decent where it can be seen and want it mostly hidden out of view if possible

Done it on my brothers GT years ago. PITA. We got the dash loose, pulled it back in the car and were able to get the core out, but it was not fun to do.

Good job!! Little by little you’re getting there.

Question that may have been answered prior but the terminator blower and front cover, etc swap requires a short water pump, correct?

Thanks
