ok, I'm not very good w/ mechanics or terminology so keep that in mind as you read this.... I was having the same loud squeel problem. Except this would only happen after I'd get on it (reving high w/ lots of boost) and then push the clutch peddal in while at a dead stop. I took it to a dealer to have them fix it. They replaced the TOB but less than 1000 miles later the noise returned. That was at about 5000 miles. For the next 5000 miles it progresivly became worse but I'd ignore it. Then at 10000 miles I took it to another dealer and test drove it with one of the mechanics so they could reproduce the problem. I got the car back later that same day. The washed & detailed, oil changed, lubed, tires rotated, blah blah, and... no more squeel. Here is what the mechanic explained to me. He says that it sounded like the TOB but if that were the case then it shouldn't be squeeling when the clutch pedal was pushed down. But then he began speculating that it could be the "forked thingy" w/ "fingers" that the TOB bearing rides/rests against. They checked this and found it to be lightly rusted. They put some metalic grease on it and now the probelm is gone. I suspect this is nearly the same fix that you made, 46stang. I'm wondering if replacing the TOB with an aftermarket one would have any affect in solving this squeeling noise. Maybe it's this "forked finger" thingy that is the culprit. I apologize for my non-mechanical terminology... hope it makes sense.
