I've run nations and J2, have had issues with both. I can say for sure alot of the problems with these cars is the factory shitty cables. People blame the + cabling but actually the factory shitty ground from chassis to block is the biggest problem. It's grounded through the paint on the frame with a shitty self tapping screw and a 'toothed' eyelet that's supposed to cut thru the paint when torqued on the assembly line (real 70s engineering).

Hit that part of the frame with a dremel/wire wheel and some no-ox, and clean up the spade... Then... add an additional good 0 or 00 gauge cable from frame to block. One good thick cable + cable from the alt post to the fuse box stud in addition to the factory cable is all you need.
