AMS/ALPHA Performance Engineering update: Billet VR38 Short Block | Alpha Series by Alpha Performance| Premium Nissan R35 GT-R Performance Upgrade Packages -

"Behind the scenes here at AMS we are always working on something, be it a new platform, new parts, services etc. I have talked about our new intake manifold briefly and I hope to release some updates on that by Monday but for now I wanted to talk about an update to our R35 ALPHA Engine Program: The ALPHA R35 VR38 Billet Short Block.

Many of you are aware we have a very tried and true engine program that has powered most of the worlds fastest R35 GT-R’s. Early on we noticed some failing points in the VR38 block and developed some ways to make it a bit stronger. While this has proved to be very effective we know that we can do even more and with the potential for even more power on the horizon we knew we needed an even stronger solution… Enter our new billet block.

I don’t need to tell most of you the benefits of a billet block. For those that are not as informed machining any component from a solid piece of billet aluminum allows for an extremely strong piece. The main reason you do not see this as commonplace in the automotive industry is due to the cost associated in making a billet block. Each block is CNC machined from one solid piece of billet aluminum… clearly not the best option for a cost effective mass produced piece. This option is however much stronger than its cast counterpart and for big power quite possibly the strongest option available.

We are still a few months away from our first hard test but I can say this new program is going to endure a trial by fire. Omega will be ready and waiting to put this new block through hell and back. We can’t think of a better way to test it’s integrity and capabilities then by tossing over 1700whp behind it. This new program will allow our customers all over the world to put an even stronger option in their ALPHA GT-R’s and make them even more reliable and powerful.

So stay tuned as this and more products come to light from AMS and ALPHA performance. While we are working with new platforms we are far from done with the R35."

I haven't really kept up with the GTR thing. Have the various tuners sorted out the transmission problems I heard about when these cars first hit the street (and tracks)?

Yep but it's fairly expensive. Everything you need to know on GTRlife.com

Dodson makes lots of the upgraded parts. Dodson Motorsport

Shep is the man according to most on GTRlife http://sheptrans.com/products/gtr-r35/ He uses the Dodson parts.
His Stage 2 Trans build is $7k. It's what most street and some track guys use and has been proven to last over his tq ratings.

Shep is the man period. The cool thing about him is that unlike other vendors, he has not turned his back on the communities that he first started out with (DSM's then Evo's). Most other vendors have ditched those platforms for the next best thing.
