My dad introduced me to the sport in 1996 with a trip to MIS. My interest in it goes up and down every few years, but what remains constant is a yearly trip with the guys to Dega in the fall. 2020 will be year 11. You cannot convince me there's a more laid back and better way to spend a weekend with the boys than climbing in the trucks, pulling campers into the grounds after 9 hours, and spending 4 days drinking and catching up. We've made a few great friends as camping neighbors and look forward to the shenanigans every year. We've seen an evolution in the attendance the last 10 years. Yes, the die hard fans with their 24, 3, and 88 shirts/hats/tats are dwindling, but the younger crowd is embracing race day as what it's best for... partying with a bunch of people while watching loud and fast cars go round. If NASCAR can capitalize on this attraction with enhanced fan experiences, maybe they can save the sport. They'll have to also figure out how to keep the big money TV deals alive as well. That said, Indy (my home) is not fairing as well, because the racing sucks. We've made the day trip the last 3 years, but are skipping this year because it's July 4th weekend. NASCAR is at least trying the road course on Saturday, which is what we've been saying they need to do for Cup on Sunday. Maybe there's promise for the years to come? That track is just too big and flat for stock cars to really race. As a 33 year old, I really couldn't care less that I'm not able to go buy these cars on Monday. I want to see the best product and competition possible, with good characters and champions for the sport behind the wheel. It would have been cool to been at Daytona yesterday with the Prez making an appearance. Dems are losing their mind over it, saying that he's pandering and catering to his base. Last I checked, it wasn't a requirement to be a Republican to attend a race. The race experience is about as American as you can get, and if that's stereotypical for Republicans, then maybe they're doing something "more right". Where would usually find a gathering of 200,000 Democrats? An abortion, tax increases, and gun banning combined march? Doesn't seen very American. Cliffs: America's great. We love fast cars and beer. Glad a president supported it. Sent from my SM-G975U using the svtperformance.com mobile app
