all 28 spline diffs work in IRS case ?

In a 28 spline lincoln alum IRS case, will any 28 spline limited slip diff work ?
Or does the diff have to be from a IRS originally ?

any 8.8 28sp will work.

if it wasn't originally out of an IRS, the side gears have to be machined to accept the circlips

Does that just require facing the gear a bit for the required extra clearance ?

they have to be beveled so if you have to remove the axles, the circlips will pull out. otherwise once they go in they will be extremely difficult to remove.
