He passed away four days ago of lung cancer. Godspeed Bill. Good job.

William Oscar "Bill" Bell, 66, of Monticello, Wis., died Feb. 10, 2013, with his family and friends by his side. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Washington Reformation United Church of Christ in Monticello, Wis. A lunch will follow the service.

He was born Feb. 5, 1947, in Duncan, Okla., to Mary Jo and Dr. Franklin Earl Bell. He is survived by his wife, Cherri; son, Ben Bell; daughter-in-law, Terra; grandson Brady; sister, Sallie Warren; brother-in-law, Monnie; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He had resided in Tyler, was a 1965 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and a graduate of Tyler Junior College.

He enlisted in the Army in 1967, where he was a highly decorated officer. His distinctions include the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, three Purple Hearts, a Vietnam Air Medal, a Good Conduct Ribbon, a National Defense Ribbon, a Combat Infantry Badge and an Army Commendation with "V."

He was also a proud member of the American Legion, AMVETS of New Glarus, Wis., Monticello Lions Club, Monticello Community Club and a member of Washington Reformation UCC.

William spent his last years establishing the Silver Star Vineyards, which he and his wife created on their farm in Monticello, Wis.

RIP Mr. Bell.
Being an infantry officer during Vietnam had to be one of the most intense things ever. 3 purple hearts prove it.
