I don't see where being a Cobra with IRS has any affect on the TT calculator, you are using a factory suspension even if it is from a later car. I'm getting dinged for a tubular k-member, and non OEM aero once I add the rear wing. Now if you are trying to run a TT letter class then yes you will get dinged, but I don't know if they are bringing those back next year, sounded like everyone will be in 1 of the 4 ST/TT classes.

I would need to pull up the previous conversations I have had with some of the local guys who went down the same path. If I recall, the IRS would force them to treat the car like a 99, and the body would get dinged for aero mods. And the fact its a cobra would get dinged as well because they base the mustang of the GT and I would get hit for engine points etc.

I dont 100% recall the specifics but at this point in time im not worried about the TT classes. I need to prove myself in the TA classes which plays off strictly power to weight ratios - no other points etc come into play. Once i do well in time attack, I will look into moving to TT. Fortunately and unfortunately we have a lot of fast guys. fortunately because competing with fast guys will force me to be faster but unfortunately because they are certainly hard to beat lol.

Sometime in late 2019 I will plan to revisit and actually sit down with someone who actually polices the rules and walk me through how the points work and what class I would actually be in.

the fast guys make you spend money, but from a drivers stand point they will make you better if you care about catching them. Me personally I just want to push it as far as I can and maybe move to AI with a different car but same platform. I haven't had any seat time now going on 3 years but I'm looking forward to next year and learning the new car.

I have been slacking lately. Here are a few updates.

I took the car to my friends shop to get the subframes welded in and the roll bar welded up.

I received my seats. I found two separate deals, one is on the Sparco Evo II US which is for us fat boys and I found an even cheaper Sparco Evo II seat for the passenger side.

Got the seats mounted up, they are fixed without sliders. I have Racequip 5 point harnesses in blue. My gloves and shoes are blue so I wanted to match.

The final piece to the puzzle (for now) arrived and that is the Eibach sway bar kit.

I had to order the u-joint flange that connects to the rear end which is for a 1350 u-joint, ordered a new aluminum driveshaft because why not? I had a LMR gift card for winning an online contest for posting a pic of my fox... Anyhow I had to also buy a u-joint that had two 1350 ends and two 1330 ends to fit the 98 cobra driveshaft. That stuff should be here next week so im probably going to get this rear end in Nov 10th or 11th.

Now that piece is out of the way...

Time to rip the SRA out. Didn't get too far tonight after work.... Kind of a pain in the ass to push out the 85 every time I want to work on this car. I hope tomorrow I can get the IRS in and have the car back on the ground.

Great build thread. If you have any questions on the IRS install see the writreup I did in the SN95 Cobra section.

I have actually referenced your writeup several times already! Thanks so much for that. I am currently debating how I want to do the mounts.... I think I'm going to weld them plus some support brackets on the outside edges.

Alright, I have been guilty of being lazy and slacking both..... Keeping this updated has been kinda hard since im not documenting much in form of pictures but I will press on and try to be better.

First things first... I dropped the rear out of the car.

It came out fairly easy... the passenger side front bushing of the lower control arm was pretty tight. I think when the car was hit they used that torque box to bend it back into shape. because of that everything was pretty jacked up. Note to self, its always easier to start with a super clean car..... but oh well here I am, its done and I will deal.

Some tweaking shown here.....

The FTBR kit contains a tool to open up ears where the bushings go in... here I am using it on the passenger side torque box as you can see by the pics its really tweaked from being pulled on the frame straightener.

In the pic below you can see the lower right side of the torque box is moved over to the left pretty far.. I opened it up as much as I could.

Overall I can't complain too much, its a clean car under too

With the rear out I quickly realized that I can steal the anti moan brackets and use them on my 85!!

old and dirty before... below is after I finished them.

IRS up and almost in....

Had to come back out to run some Diff cooler lines..

This is where I really start slacking off and fail to take pics.....

What happened was the passenger side didn't want to come all the way up into the bracket..... so I have the bracket held onto the frame by one bolt so it pivots and the bracket is bolted to the IRS. I see where the tank was pushed forward and the mount for the tank strap is hitting the frame...

This is where I like this car that isnt a show car.... I lower the car down and jump in the trunk to get the IRS to basically bend the tank strap mount out of the way and settle down into place...

Here is the car with the IRS in, coil's in and wheels on.

Car was registered already, figured I need to get a cool plate....

And im sure nobody cares but I love old school stuff.... this wasn't as old as I wanted but is late 90's bmx bike to use as a pit bike at events. This is before Mongoose was a Walmart name....

That is the plan. Hit up a couple track days along the southwest and southeast US for 2019.

love the old school bmx. I've got an '89 Redline from my childhood I've gotta restore one of these days.

Thanks! Very cool - I havent decided if I want to restore this one or just ride it how it is.

Finally buttoning everything up on the rear end.

One of the issues with starting with a car that had its shit pushed in is that things won't always fit.

Case in point here is the IRS cradle. The passenger side physically will not move up any higher at all. The pic below shows how far out it is currently.

I had to elongate the holes to move the bracket back further on both sides as well. After doing measurements the rear end is currently sitting square. From here I will just add plates to the outside and bolt through the wheel well sandwiching the thin metal. On the opposite side I will run a support bar from one side to the other like the strut tower brace. Finally the brackets will be welded to the car. It may not line up but its staying where she's at now.

Pic below shows where my future bracing will be.

I want to run bars from the main hoop down to the strut towers for additional strength.

Got my diff cooler mounted, the fan is a pull fan so when its off hopefully the flow will still have some cooling effect, but when it is needed the fan will pull the air through and exhaust the air out through the back.

I am just waiting on a 10MM bubble flare tee fitting to come in. Once thats done I will hook my brake lines back up and I should be able to put the car back on the ground and drive it in for an alignment.

BTW anyone have suggestions on alignment settings for track driving??
