97 Cobra burnout question

I have a 97 Cobra with a vortech at 10psi and 315 nitto drag radials. This thing revs like a motorcycle engine (3.55 gears) I tried to use first gear but Im in the limiter before they really heat up. What do you guys do, start in 2nd, shift to second? I dont have a line lock and dont want to hit the wall or run over the track guy. Thanks Eric

I start in 2nd with 4.30s

I have 4.30s and 315 toyo DRs and I just sit there till they get smokey. I don't shift and I don't have line lock. Ill hold the motor a 5500 RPM till I'm ready.

no matter what I always use 2nd gear, goal is to heat the tires so first gear wont work well just like you said.

Dump the clutch and lightly apply the brakes while spinning the tires. There should be enough caliper grip on the front to keep the car from rolling but not enough to stop the rear tires.

The line lock is the way to go though.

Always use 2nd gear, tires get hotter quicker and motor works less

I use 2nd gear too, I have 4.10s and hold the rpm's around 5000-5500rpm
