Figured I'd start a thread for my 96 ford ranger coyote setup progress. I'll have to post some pics later but the details of the swap are as follows:

Truck was a 2.5 Turbo setup previously, so it's already got some go fast stuff in it I'll be reusing.

Front suspension setup (the key to making this swap easy) is an AJE strut front end that they produce for 97 and earlier rangers. The truck has had this setup in it since last winter. The massive stock crossmember in this trucks, as well as the steering box really make a modular/coyote swap difficult. Lucky for me that stuff is long gone.

Drivetrain:
2014 F150 motor with 25k on it. This will be getting mustang intake cams and billet oil pump gears. Behind that is a mcleod steel flywheel with the same 10.5" RXT clutch that was in the 2.5 setup. Quicktime bell and a midshifted tko (this was also already installed). That is backed up to the already installed 8.8, 3.73 rear end.

I'll be going with the ford control pack, boss alternator kit, and possible a Boss 302 intake with Nitrous outlet plate.

Challenges for this setup are going to be headers (much easier with the aje k member then stock), steering shaft clearance (more pictures on that later), and the custom core support I have tacked together (did this because the stock one was starting to show some rust, and the new one is cleaner looking. It also gained be a few inches of radiator to motor clearance so it's a win win.).

Anyways, I'll keep this updated as I go. I've seen pictures of ranger swaps before but have yet to see someone actually post details about it.. so here it is for anyone that likes rangers.

Here is the bearing plate I made. This mounts on the inside of the firewall where the factor steering shaft boot used to mount. This seals and holds the steering shaft solid so it's a win win. I now have the necessary booster and valve cover clearance I need. Time to move on to the rest of the shaft and then start headers

I know how tight the pushrod 5.0s are in the Explorer and how there are only two companies making headers for that application (and ones a copy of the other). Good luck on the headers with this; I really want to see what you come up with!

Core support is off and ready to finish the welding and paint. Going to yank the motor and trans out here soon and do the pump gears, Intake cams, replace 4th gear, and a few things to the engine bay and then cram it all back in.

bit of an update for everyone:

motor is now out of the truck ready for the cams and oil pump gears. I stripped the engine bay of all items and resprayed it white for a new clean look. Planning on doing a wire tuck and relocating the fuse box to behind the dash most likely. Last night I got the drive by wire pedal mounted up, which was surprisingly much easier then I was expecting. Steering shaft components should be ready to go in for good today as well.

I now have all of the fuel system related components that I'll ever need for this truck. 15Ga Eliminator Stealth fuel cell, summit lines/fittings/filter, and aeromotive regulator.

Being that most of my stock gauges aren't really idea for this build anymore (tach only goes to 6k, fuel sender is different on the cell then a stock ford one, oil pressue is a dummy gauge, etc) I ordered the last pricey piece for this puzzle after finding it on sale. Rackpak IQ3s dash. This allows input of fuel sender, oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, tach, speed, turn signals, high beams, ebrake, etc. It also wires into the obd2 port for any other items that the ecu can see on a datalog. In the coyote's case, I'll be able to view the factory wideband via this display. No other gauges will be needed and this gives a nice clean look. I priced out individual gauges to build a cluster, but it is hard to justify the cost and space of doing individual gauges vs this setup.

Got a bit of work done today. FBW pedal has been tightened to the firewall and is in for good (needed a hand holding the bolts for tightening).

I started working on the motor. Torn the covers and pan off to swap in a few items. Engine upgrades are:

Factory mustang intake cams
Mustang oil pump housing with Boundary billet oil pump gears
Mustang front timing cover
Mustang oil pan gasket (has windage tray built into it)
Oil temp bung welded to pan
Boss 302 alternator kit
Clean all plastics

Cams and pump gears are in but I'm 8 bolts short of reassembly so the rest will have to wait until those come. (Here now)

Headers dropped off for ceramic coating today. Should have motor back in this weekend
