I really can’t think of anything. This was my first garage build. I did a bunch of research and I’m happy with my planning and the end results. Making the garage expandable was a nice feature so it can grow as I need. Normally a 40x40 has a heavy beam in the middle with lighter beams on the ends. Mine is set up with another heavy beam on the side that will expand. I also had anchors sunk into the slab in the corners of the basketball court where the future end beam will be welded to. One other thing I did was to have my electrician run circuits for the future expansion and terminated them in a box in the back corner. This allowed me to have them buried in the spray foam insulation versus running them later. Another thing I did was to have the whole slab poured thick. I wasn’t sure where I’d end up putting lifts, so we went with 2x6s for forms and also had lots of crossing much thicker footings. We used a crap ton of concrete, but this allowed versatility with lifts later. The tall ceiling allowed lifts anywhere and enabled me to build a loft to get all my extra parts off the floor. My HVAC guy recommended a 2-headed mini-split heat pump that does a great job keeping the temp comfortable year round. Two inches of spray foam insulation help as well. Hope that all helps. Thank you sir! 40x80 is HUGE! Do you climate control it? I’d love to see some pics.
