Yea ya gotta figure with driver and gas its likely 4500 lbs. I was thinking the same thing 945 whp and just cracking 9's. She definitely heavy! Doesn't seem to stop it from hauling ass tho I guess.

I guess we have to come to terms that there isn't gonna be any 3000 lb coupes made any longer. Whether its Ford, Dodge or whatever shit is gonna be heavy.

I just don't see cars getting much lighter as time goes on.... If u look at the Ford Mustang over the decades it seems to gain about 300 lbs a decade.

945whp to trap 139-141 is a huge display of how heavy this car is.

Race weight was over 4400 lbs is my bet.

Sad but true.

Right! Wheel speed noobs, wheel speed.
Might try a third gear in this car.
Let’s see what these You Tube rookies break.

Unfortunately a side effect of the trade-war is that aluminum prices are up. Which means Ford will be much less likely to develop an aluminum S650 Mustang w(is made in relatively few numbers compared to trucks and SUVs).

Don’t count on ford letting the mustang lose much of any credibility. They need to bolster and hype the mustang name.

By naming an electric suv after it, they have essentially asserted that mustang is the strongest brand they have, and put all eggs in that basket.

I think the dodge market creep is very real to ford. They want the mustang brand to stay top dog in sales and reputation.

Aluminum these and carbon that isn’t to tough an ask if it keeps the brand image up and helps usher in their electric offerings. Tesla may have the niche, informed and trendy market, but ford can sell to the masses easier.

Why ford isn’t being overly bold about mustang is a case for marketing classes to study in the future.

I think the destroyed the mustang name. Why would anyone buy one? I have a mustang...you mean the ugly suv that looks like the Aztec?

It’s a gutsy play call on their part.

If they do it full tilt with balls and brains, could be a huge success and the stuff of legend in marketing classes to come.

As they are currently doing it? Well, I think it will be in marketing classes to come but not for glorifying reasons...

They should launch with the bad ass model, bump it to 500+hp equivalent, and price it under $60k otd before incentives or gov rebaits.

Lose money on the first year. Build equity, sell to masses year 2&3. Give a little to get a foot hold.

Kia did this. Genesis, stinger etc
Nissan did this. R35 gtr
Tesla does this. All lines.

The idea of making profit day one year one is gone save a cash started lemonaid stand. If you want to take in millions, day one year one, start a church, casino, or whorehouse.

Customers are too tight and savvy to give anyone any profit anymore, except sweatshop apple (once domesticated again I’ll quit), etc.

Bottom line, ford needs to put all its skin in the game if they want to leverage the brand that carries them through recession after recession.

1964+, got ford out of death spiral.

1979-1983 kept ford from dying again.

1992-1996 Mustang again staved off wobbles, Explorer also huge, etc.

2000-2004, mustang sales were 100,000-200,000 per year at ~$20k each. That’s incredible for 9/11, and dot com bubble pop.

05-09, mustang held strong sales during recession. We bought em when most cars failed, Camaro was dead, etc.

All of the obama years, we bought mustangs getting 18mpg with $4.50 gas+.

Today it’s 75-125,000/yr at ~$35k each. Factor inflation, and that ships sailing away. The cars are better than ever today. The problem is customers feel alienated by ford. Why don’t we have a drag pack like dodge has? Why don’t we have a supercharged car for 5 years? Why is the manual gone now on the supercharged car?

There are logical and valid reasons behind all of that, but to top it off, we don’t get any assertion from Ford that “hey, we get it, this is what we can do with what we can work with. We’ll try to put something together as a limited run, thank you!”

No we get a decent, nice SUV with electric capability, but it further suffocates our enthusiast flame. Communicate with us and let us know we’re valued for carrying the brand and company 50 years. Telling us to buy an electric suv or we aren’t mustang faithful is like telling me to let my wife sleep with the neighbor or I’m racist.

Show me an electric suv that is an impossible value to pass up, much like a Tesla model 3 is, and I’ll trip over myself to buy it, just like most do for the model 3. Call it a mustang or call it a fiesta. It will sell on value, and market demands value, not patronizing.

I want the mach e to do so well it sells a million a year and saves the day, but it won’t do it as currently specked/marketed/optioned/priced. If it moves 150,000 a year, I’ll be very surprised. Meanwhile model 3 is selling to people who’ve never owned a Tesla or a performance car at 300-400,000 per year at ~$50K.

End rant

The Mustang has zero chance of going aluminum on it’s own. This isn’t a space frame car or body-on-frame car we’re dealing with. At ~100K units a year for a modestly profitable car will never justify the investment. It will take platform sharing for us to ever see a significant amount of AL in the Mustang structure.

Exactly. It was a significant investment to do AL panels on a body on frame truck. Different game on a unibody car. Couple that with there not being much money in cars vs. crossovers, and it just won't happen. If there is a positive, it wont happen for the other competitors either. There are always rumors of them canceling the Camaro, and the challenger will likely never be updated.

What is your basis for this? Trade wars soften pricing rather than strengthen pricing.

Kind of a dark future for traditionally powered pony cars.
I hope not, but I think you're right.

If that's the case, I'll have to look at the Hellcats for my fix.

Not sure if this new pass has been posted, but it just keeps the impressive train rolling! You can keep your dodge demon crate at $100k+ vs $85k at most with mods in this car, ooo and it can turn

Im sure the car will keep getting quicker as they sort it out. Remember the Demon has a warranty if you stick to the crate, GT500 guy will quickly surpass that 100k mark if the motor lets go

Yea "IF" it goes, and yea it may have a warranty but I am sure there are many disclaimers to that process can guarantee that

The demon is a niche car, the people buying it weren’t worried about the price or that it can’t turn.

for those that are being concerned about money they can buy a challenger Redeye wise body for less then the GT500, tune it, run 9s and with a better street tire, brake pad and fluid swap go hit track days too.

Mira a stupid argument to say the gt500 can handle blah blah, sure it can and in the hands of a pro this become far more important but the average person doing less then a handful of track days on average leaves so much on the table it wouldn’t matter and really track days count for nothing other then fun.

now if you’re talking competitive racing the gt500 is the clear pick. The people that will hot track days let alone a competitive class will make up such a small small fraction of owners.

just so we’re clear, out of the demon or gt500 I’d still rather have the gt500, I’m just giving my opinion on each cars merits and how they will actually factor into real world ownership. Personally I can’t wait to see more and more of this GT500, it’s impressive already with very minimal work.
