My point is, if you want to develop software to give away to people that is capable of cracking ford's ecu's and then reflashing them, you will more than likely need an engineering degree or something of the sort

You're looking at this the wrong way. I mentioned companies like Hondata/AEM; they don't give anything away. They include the open ability to tune your own vehicle without a license by upping the cost of the initial purchase. I.E. for Hondata's S300 (B/H/F/D Series motors you will look at ~$495 for the purchase, extra $400 for Traction Control, and other add-ons come for a lesser amount of cash).

Jason S. has helped a lot of people for free with their maps when he worked for AEM; this continued even after he developed his own EMS(Pro EFI). So I tend to side with Charisma.

PS: A 50k engineering degree is pretty cheap lol.
