If I had $300k for a Ford GT I'd have another $50k to stick a turbo or blower on it and make 1000+

Well, you know what they say.

You can live in a car, but you can't drive a house.

Interestingly, the '05-'06 is the nicer car to just drive around in on the street. It's a bit more GT car, has a lot more room inside, and that V8 burble behind your head is music. People rack up tens of thousands of miles in theirs for that reason.

The current gen is much more sporty. It's hands down the one to choose for racetrack use, and it has both the benefits and the compromises of a hyper-performance-focused street car.

You can't go wrong with either.

Ill pile on, I enjoy the 05 more to drive. Like the sound, 3 pedals, and an analog approach (my recollection the 05-06 FGT was the last Ford with a throttle cable, vs "by wire"). But for "speed" on track or street the 18, beats it in every metric (and is no slouch in the enjoyment department).
