Can you even touch (with livable amount of options) a diesel F250/350 for $50K these days. Your probably looking at a honest $10K difference diesel vs. gas in an apples to apples trim/options comparison. If you can justify it, along with the extra operating and maintenance costs for the duration of ownership, go for it.
With the absurd amount of expensive emissions compliance gear for modern diesels, WHEN it breaks out of warranty its going to be expensive A/F. Ill take the gasser unless I absolutely need the pulling torque of a diesel.
Im already planning how to explain to the wife why i need this truck lol. I know nitto makes a 35x11 that would fit perfect on the stock wheels and a Manaflow 3.5 or 4 inch muffler and pipes will sound great
Unloaded Diesel mileage is not as fantastic as you seem to think. Loaded mileage is not great and anyone who tells you they get 14mpg towing a 10k lbs 5th wheel is so full of shit it’s not even funny. I’ve owned more trucks than I can count with every engine and trans configuration possible. Mark my words.... this gasser will be a HIT because the technology is finally here and it’ll be competitive. Sent from my iPhone using the svtperformance.com mobile app
I see about 12MPG out of my 6.4 towing a load like that in the flat. I saw as little as 8MPG pulling grades out west and against a 35MPG head wind in AZ. GM's 8.1 Vortec probably would have done better if it was competing with diesels equiped with EGR, DPF, and SCR.
Anyone have the dimensions and rough weight on the long block? I’d love to see a new high boy of sorts with a 2dr f250 longbed work truck able to run easy mid 13’s and put in real work. A new lightning too A new mustang boss 429 (destroke but very unlikely...) Who at ford would need a big bribe to produce a short deck big bore version at 351-390ci?
Flick. That’s hot Considering Chevy and dodge are doing so much with ibc mills, and ford has done about as much as anyone save turbos on the 4v’s, itd be cool to see an ibc mustang again.
Pics of this 5th wheel? It’s not just the weight, it’s also the height and wind resistance of a 5er that kills mileage.... then there’s your towing speed. I’ve never topped 10-11 mpg combined, all in, on trip with my 5th toy box. I’d be ecstatic with 12. I’ve seen 7 and 8 many times towing a grade too, but more talking about hand calc’d round trip towing with those big loads. It would take decades for a diesel to pay off the difference in initial buy-in via MPG improvement over gas. That 8.1 was decent ( I had one in a 2004 3/4 suburban) but I was more impressed with the 96-00 vortec 454 with a tune. Sent from my iPhone using the svtperformance.com mobile app
It's a 28 foot (36 overall) Featherlite. Towed it to CA and back a few years ago. My truck is much more sensitive to wind resistance than weight:
I hope it makes more tq than 510. Honestly id like to see 550 tq. Its gotta be more than the EcoBoost 3.5 HO in tq. I like the hp numbers at 460.
