Solid info guys. Greatly appreciated. There’s so much good and bad about each generation powerstroke. Unfortunately it looks like I should stay away from the 6.4’s which is a bummer. Maybe a f150 with a Whipple? o_O

    Good advice here.

I’ll add, my good friend was my 6.0 mechanic. He said he’d stop answering my calls if I bought a 6.4.

I have 3 customers that have over 500k on them.

I just pulled their recent ROs... 587,381 miles, 543,756 miles and 550,976 miles.

They all three drive for a camper store and deliver 5th wheels all throughout the country. Two of the trucks are 2013s and one is a 2014.

None of them. They've all just done the maintenance that Ford recommends.

Thanks. I love hearing stuff like this. Our next truck is likely going to be a 6.7 or the new 7.3 gasser.

That's good to hear about the 6.7, I was worried about the longevity of the motors but it sounds like Ford must have fixed the issues with them. I remember when the 6.7 came out, it is all Ford design not a Navistar motor with Ford electronics. I currently work for a fleet and we have a few power strokes but they are sold long before they hit that kind of mileage.

Stock or delete? Very impressive either way.

I had a 2010 6.4 (last year of the 6.4) since new and it was an awesome truck. But I lived with the fear that it was a ticking bomb. I deleted and tuned with only 200 miles and had zero issues. Drove it for 50k miles with over 500whp and over 1000wtq and sold it..

How many miles are on it? Is yours deleted?
Seems like a full delete deters majority of the issues. Since the cylinders don’t get ultra heated and fuel washed.

our 16 6.7 is closing on a 100k and I think all we've had so far is a radiator start leaking

Mine is at 58,000 miles, has ALL the longevity mods, only runs a low HP 'Tow' Tune, and gets the best maintenance you'll find. I expect it to last a very long time at this rate. If it fails in spectacular fashion I plan on keeping the truck in dropping in either a 6.7 Cummins or 6.7 Powerstroke.

Not to thread jack, but how are the 2017+ 6.7s holding up? My biggest hangup with the 6.7 is the sheer cost of emissions parts out of warranty and the complexity of the new diesels. With them nearly hitting 1000 ft/lbs of torque, im not quite sure why anyone would need a tune on it. If your customers are the norm at 500K with factory recommended maintenance bone stock, Im going to be interested in the 6.7. Ill be interested to see how TIME and high mileage play out.

I've had 0 issues with the 2017+ trucks. The most any of my customers have put on those though are in the 200ks.

Outside of warranty, I'd just delete them.

@PaxtonShelby I don't remember what about the 11 trucks had issues with just job 1 trucks, believe most were fixed by job 2. 13+ trucks had bigger rotors, 15+ came with a bigger hpfp and a better turbo but I also heard they had 1 less clutch pack than the previous years, but I don't think it made a significant difference. 17+ I thought came with yet another turbo upgrade ( I know a lot of 11-14 guys will do a retro 17 turbo kit, might be the same for the hpfp but don't quote me on that)

I've got a 13 with only 46K but it's been on a diet since about 5K, truck runs great.

Not worried about thread jack. This is the type of conversation I was hoping to strike up. Real experience. Im going to be shopping around for awhile until I find the “right” truck. All information/experience welcomed.

The amount of trucks I tune everyday with DOT numbers is astonishing. Use a frost plug for the egr, and gut the dpf. I tune for a lot of guys who hot shot, and "knock on wood", they have never had an issue with the DOT.

I can see it, especially the guys using these trucks so much day in and day out the MPG is a big difference Im sure. We only run 2 and compared to our other trucks that get 2-4 mpg the stock mileage on these seems great in comparison
