Just today on the way back from an area GTG, something busted at 6500 RPM in first gear.
At this point, I'm guessing that it's either a timing chain or worse :(

Symptoms are a big loss of power, ran horribly right after and very hard to crank.
I'll start tearing into it tomorrow.

I do have a few mods to do while I'm in there but didn't expect to have to do that until later in the year.

Oh well, I'll be posting pics as I get into it.
How much are new timing chains? What's the part number?

Mods to go on:

Stage 2 cams/springs
New alternator -- mine stock one isn't cutting it any more
mjchip's mod'd FPDM
fuel pump wiring mod
fuel pressure gauge
line lock (finish)
water temp gauge
oil cooler w/ fans

maybe the libery input shaft and new clutch if i feel so bold.

Here's an image right after it broke down ... :crying:

Sorry to hear that man. I hope whatever it is is cheap and easy. I think you were just looking for an excuse to put those cams/spings in her! LOL

At these power levels and under my lead foot, something was bound to go...
I seem to have to tear into her every 10K miles or so.
Smart money was on the input shaft.
I've got my fingers crossed that even if it is the timing chain, it didn't damage any other items like valves, pistons, etc...

I just swapped the FRPS and still sounded bad. It did start up on the first try, but still sounded bad. Some friends of mine were over and said they heard something rattling on the front of the engine ... hopefully front end and not bottom end.

I did pull the spark plugs and they are all normal.

Should draining the oil be the next logical step?

Damn Coleman... hope its nothing too costly. I dunno if these are crash motors or not if the timing chain breaks. Keep up posted with what you find.

ok, decided to do some compression tests...
since I haven't done this before, I hope I did it correctly.

cyl psi
1 ... 150
2 ... 145
3 ... 150
4 ... 160
5 ... 145
6 ... 145
7 ... 145
8 ... 145

nothing seems to stand out here...

i do not know how to do any leakdown tests at this time.
i'll wait until i after i drain the oil and get the valve covers off.
