IMO the DTC trans in the GT500 is one of the main reasons I want to buy one. Why would you buy this $$ car if you only wanted to drag race it? Just get a base model GT and put a turbo on it, cheaper lighter and faster in the end. I am curious to see how the dual clutch holds up to modded GT500's as they start to make there way to the track with a 664lb-ft Tq rating which is close to what the GT500 is rated at stock. The trans uses Pentosin FFL-4 fluid which is readily available and about $25 a qt. Not sure what the maintenance interval is or why you would have to change it every 15k if its not exposed to combustion by products? They do use the fluid to cool the clutch packs so maybe heat is breaking it down? I attached the spec sheet from Tremec. As far as swapping, I think that would be a nightmare. Most of the magic in the trans seems to come from the programming. Being able to shift mid-turn on a road course without unsettling the chassis due to the computer adjusting shift timing based of suspension sensors does not sound like something easily replicated by hot rodders. In fact is doesn't sound like something Ford would ever even offer and most certainly DOES sounds like tech you would see from high end European manufacturers!!! I can't wait till the crazy dealer mark ups go away!
