I'd almost be willing to bet they just take a bath on the first few years of the mid engined cars. Seriously, THIS is the platform going forward, you had to make the investment at some point, and planning to pay it off in the first few years is ambitious at best. I'm betting they're in for the long haul, so these things are priced to sell. Also, everyone comparing this to the GT 500 is just out of their mind. I'm sorry, I'm a Ford fanboy, but you absolutely cannot compare the inadequacies of a Macpherson strut to not only a double wishbone, but a Mid Engine setup at that. Sure, the GT500 has ~250 extra horsepower so doing hero laps on certain tracks it will come out ahead, but by and large I would not be surprised to see the vette turn similar, or faster times. Now, for everyone comparing the vette to the GT - Welcome to the principle of diminishing returns. Isn't the rule in F1 something like $1,000,000 per second you want to go faster? You guys realize you can make a Miata out lap an R8 if you really wanted to, but not all of what you're paying for is JUST performance, and the performance you are paying for gets exponentially more expensive with exponentially decreasing returns. This is the world we live in now, where your run of the mill sports cars are challenging "supercars," and it's been happening for a while now. The ~$80,000 GT-R was a supercar killer when it was first introduced, even though on paper it had no right to be.
