Went to the track Wednesday after changing a few things. First time out the car was locking out of 3rd real bad. On the 1 clean pass I made I went 13.1 @109 w/ a 2.0 60ft.
My question is what RPM are ppl shifting at with the stock intake mani? This last time out I had major traction issues and only made 2 passes before the pinion seal blew in the rear end. My best was 13.1@110 mph w/ a 2.2 60ft. I have been shifting at about 6800-7000 rpm. On the last pass I shifted into 4th at about 6400 and was able to run 111 mph.
I dyno'd the car and it made 400hp rite at 6750 and 383 tq at 4400 rpm.
Now I know these times are crap and this is my first attempt at running a manual at the track.
My mods are as in my sig. No n2o yet. Only changes are the bama tune. I feel like the tune is the real issue?? Idk? I'm at a loss and not very happy!
Any info would be great!!
The track is like 250ft above sea level and the temp was about the same both times (85degf)

I ran a 13.247 @ 110.54 a couple of weeks ago at Texas Motorplex. At the time I had a JPC Racing tune, K&N 63 series CAI, and GT500 axlebacks. Tires were 275/40 Michelin PSS aired down to ~25 psi. However, the power numbers in my sig do not reflect current or previous power, those were when the car was stock. I was probably pretty close to your power level though.

I was shifting the car as close to 7000 as I could get. I wasn't launching the car at all, mainly because it was a x275 race night, so they had the street cars out of the grooves, inhibiting traction badly.

I took mine to the track when it had only 800 miles on it and I hadn't been down a track in years. My best pass was a 13.2 @ 110 or so as I couldn't get it to 60 ft worth the damn (think the best was a 2.2 which is awful). Car was completely stock and also wheel hopped like hell. I'm going to wait until I get the rest of the rear suspension done then I'm going to take it back and see how it does.

well, for starters, 400/383 rw is good power. tune is not the issue unless it stumbles anywhere down the 1/4.

you should be able to cut 1.9X 60ft's with street tires. if you drag the clutch just enough at the light before green to take up drivetrain slack, you will have less shock on takeoff and be able to get the tires to stick. you should also do a small burnout (just til you start to see smoke). you need to get some heat in them even though they aren't drag tires. practice this first.

next, I suspect your shifts are a bit slow. powershifting with street tires is useless, but a good quick shift will help cut times. shift at 7k every gear. of course, getting 3rd without hesitating is super critical to a good time. it is very tricky with the MT-82 remote shifter garbage, but it can be managed with practice.

I ran consistent 12.2-12.4 @118 with just a CAI/bama tune, steeda uca on stock Pirellis in perfect air at about 300ft above sea level. with some practice, you should be able to get mid 12's. keep your chin up and screw the "run, wait til the engine cools and run again" mentality (if you do that). you should be running and driving straight to staging. get as much seat time as you can. save the perfect temps strategy for later, when you have the technique down.

good luck!

i say shift in the 6700-6900 zone. i lose .2 or so when powershifting or going to 7k (11.70s vs 11.90s). Also oBama doesnt have the ability to remove all the torque management and clutch protection that other tuners do. you'd be surprised in what a datalogged tune will do for you.

Sounds like the 3.31 gears and 20" Chrome wheels are hurting your times. try with smaller wheels with more sidewall for flex, and you will cut the 60' time down and drop your time into the 12's

Lighter wheels is a good start. Im guessing 32 per rim and the tires are probably heavy too.

My tunes are logged. In fact this set up (cold air, no cats, 93 octane) has been logged 7 times for bama. I've had 13 tune revisions from them. All the same tune/set up. Of those tunes only 3 have ran rite. The other 10 had major drivability issues or made the motor ping above 4600 rpm.
I was able to get a data log of a good run the first time out at the track. The revision of that log is what I am running now.
As far as the wheels go these chrome Shelby wheels are actually lighter than the stock 18's and p-zero's. I do plan on switching out to slicks and skinnies but that will be a wile. I was going to throw some 26in dr's on my stock 18's until I get the $$ for a full set up. I plan to do a full o/r x pipe then have it dyno tuned.
Thanks for all the info.

Clutch protection is engaged based on clutch pedal switches. Used mainly when lauching and powershifting. The ECU reduces power when it sees full throttle and the Clutch engaging (Ford calls it Abuse. LOL)
Your car is having the problem in the middle of the gear. As far as I know there is no input shaft sensor, so the computer doesn't know if the clutch is slipping or not. I could be wrong however.... The Copperheads are insanely sophisticated.

there are a few more threads on the subject, but even with the heavy wheels you should be 113-114 right now in the heat. If you still have some stock 18s, put drag radials on those and cut 1.6-1.7 60' times and be low 12s with no other changes. Get the tuning right and hello 11s.

What size hello 11's? I was thinking about 18's so I can run a 26in tire and keep my 3.31's.

Is it possible to stay in 3rd gear with these 3.31's, the rite size tire, and a boss mani with the limiter at 7800?

I shifted my car at 7k with 3.31 and 6psd Stock I was around 12.7-12.9 trapping 108-110 on the stock 235 tire . 60 fts were 2.0. With some other mods and tune I shifted the same 7K and am down to 12.3 so far

I have no idea, but at least you don't have 3.73's and have to hit 5th gear. Be thankful for the little things!

Im happy for lots of things. But running 13's in a car that should be runnig mid to low 12's isn't one of them lol. Then add to that I blew the pinion seal in the rear end!:(
