The timer didn't work on this run so I don't know what the times were...

The 5.0 quickly pulled a car length from the launch while the Vette spun off the line, but once the Vette got traction it started to slowly reel the 5.0 in and was able to pull even by the end of the track.

A few notes about the race and the cars:

- Both cars are COMPLETELY stock including tires, air filters, etc.
- The 5.0 has 3.73's and the Vette has 2.56's
- Corvette driver weighs ~ 100 lbs. more than the 5.0 driver so the Corvette had about a 300 lb. weight advantage
- The transmission / gear ratio advantage was very evident on the 5.0 until about 80 mph when the Vette went into 3rd gear and the 5.0 went into 4th... this is when the Vette's power:weight advantage really started to show.

Corvette has 05 Wheels on it.

5.0s go into 4th at 80mph? Damn! I'm still in 2nd gear at 80, but at the very top of second.

Nice, wonder how it would have gone if the vette didn't spin. I'm still in second gear in my 03 Cobra at 80mph also. This thread is a reason I went numerically lower on the rear gear.

Wow, on Corvetteforum.com, a 2010 a6 went 12.0 @118-120! These cars have to make more than the advertise horsepower numbers!! The more I watch these 5.0s, the more I am loving them. I looked a 2012 today.

This thread is a reason I went numerically lower on the rear gear.

The new GTs create a way different type of power curve than our cars. It's the transmission ratios that play a much larger role than the final gear anyways.

5th is 1:1 in a manual 2011 GT. :uh oh: Even without the 3.73 optional final gear they're going into 4th WAY before us.

Somehow I doubt that the stock gear in a C6 is a 2.56.

You're Wrong! 2.56 and 2.76 gearing are in FACT a gear option available for the 6L80E A6 '06+ C6s. The '97-'05 C5/C6s had the 4L60E/4L65E A4 tranny with 2.73 and 3.15 gear ratios available.

The 6L80E is an actual heavy duty transmission. Everything about the design is better. Everything about the internals is stronger. The 6L80E can hold some 150hp/150tq more stock than a 4L60E/4L65E can. Best of all, they're roughly the same size and the same weight thanks to the sophisticated design and electronics of the 6L80E.

The LS3 autos get f00ked. No dry sump, and no good gearing unless you buy a GS, which replaced RPO Z51.

I had 2.59's in my C4.

It's fun watching the battle emerge again between the new 5.0 and the LS3.

SB03, don't remember ever seeing your ride. It is absolutely gorgeous.

Have you seen the A6 qtr mile times compared to the 6spd times? The A6s are going a tad faster than manuals and trapping within 1mph of manuals stock for stock.

Here is my time slip against an A6 LS3 Corvette that I raced last weekend. I talked to the owner for awhile. He is 70 years old and has another Vette he races, as well as an 07 Mustang GT convertible. He told me the car was 100% stock down to the air filter and tires. On this run it was a 12.29 @ 116+ mph, but said he has been 12 teens previously and I believe it. I'm a 97 Cobra w/ Kenne Bell at 8-9psi. I really thought I might be able to tree the old guy...WRONG!!! lol

I Agree

Powerwise: C6 LS3 ~ 5.0
1/4: Drivers Race
From a Roll: C6 LS3 > 5.0

I'd say it has an advantage in the 1/4 and from a roll, physics win. The Corvette is 400lbs lighter making the same power.

Steel bodied pony car vs fiberglass 2 seater sports car, we need a power advantage to win! ;-)

I disagree. The LS3 Vette has the advantage in everything. 5.0 GTs is pretty much like the 03/04 Cobra, 5.0 can get repetitive track times thanks to the rear end. I don't see the 5.0 beating an LS3 with identical drivers, I would think the Vette will always trap higher and be AT LEAST 4 tenths of a second faster. Still, very sweet cars

I agree but stock vs. stock and mod for mod the 5.0 is just about even.

Although the 5.0 is a spectacular vehicle in every way, I have to disagree with you on that. I would say stock vs stock, a 5.0 is closer to a M6 LS2 vette. MPH indicates the actual power a car puts out and et is driver's responsibility, (i.e tires, suspention etc.) Many LS2 and LS3 guys are running low 120s with bolt ons only. Many LS3 guys are running mid 120s with bolt-ons. add a cam to the equation, and LS3s are running 126-130s. There are many LS2s running bottom 11s with high 120s mph traps cam only. Many stock LS3s are running 117-120s, A6s included. I think time will reveal the true potential of the 5.0s and you will see how well the 5.0s really et. I would love to see a 5.0 with slicks, skinnys, 4;10 gears and bolt-ons run, using an average driver and not a magazine driver, or shop. I am willing to bet the 5.0 will see mid to bottom 11s @ 118-120. I am really considering buying a 2012 automatic now as a daily driver.
